    Here's One For Ya....

Ok...I enrolled a new part time dcb yesterday and told the mom I am paid in advance. She went to give me the money before she left and said the amount. I said "ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!" And she said, "What's the matter, that isn't enough?"

She thought the amount I quoted her for the two days per week of care she will be using was for EACH day rather than for the part time weekly care.

If only there weren't more parents who feel we deserve twice the amount we actually get...and she's actually probably going to be a subsidy paid client, if she qualifies.

I've had two situations over the last two decades where a parent thought I wasn't charging enough for my services.

I found out later, it was because the families ended up being so high needs that I TOTALLY understood why they thought I wasn't charging enough.

I ended up terming both families simply because of the outrageous expectations they had. One family lasted 2 years and the other 8 months.

Just like parents who complain about the high cost of child care, you need to be leary of those who don't think you charge enough.....they usually have pretty lofty expectations...

Gotta love that kind of support!

I recently had a family offer to pre-pay some of their fall tuition because they know we'll be financially strained this summer. lovethis (I just had a family of 2 leave and another family of 2 will leave this summer. I have 3 children enrolled for the fall, but over the summer I'll only have 1 paying child enrolled. )

The ONE time I had a parent repeatedly ask me "are you sure?" over my rates, they threw a FIT a YEAR later when I raised their rate a little...And that was just to put them on the same level as everyone else (long story there) Child was school aged and had frequent accidents, lied all the time and said things to purposely upset the other children.
