I think it is a waste of time to do interviews before you are ready to even set an opening date. You don't know the work needed at this place and you are not licensed yet. I would call back and say that after further consideration, I am not prepared to start interviewing yet and I will call when I have an opening day for the daycare as well as interviews starting.

I really appreciate everyone's thoughts on this. I know the daycare won't need too much work. It won't be in really bad shape or anything. I worked there up until last summer. And they did some improvements on it recently, like painting the walls a new color that really looked nice. I was talking more on cobwebs and furniture/toy arrangements, and switching out some of the old stuff for my own stuff that I have in storage (I will be using most the toys and equipment that's there, but there's a few things I want to switch out). I am going in Monday to clean (dust, vacuum, sweep, get rid of cobwebs if there are any, etc). But I won't be able to have everything arranged the way I'd have it when I open, and have the curtains up that I'd be using, those kind of details. Nothing big and nothing that I think would make or break her decision. I hope! But I'm curious why she would even want to see it before it's open?
She better show up! I'll be driving 25 minutes out of my way on Tuesday to show it to her. Plus the time spent going over and cleaning it up Monday morning.

I just wanted to update on this interview. It went great! happyface Grandma showed up with her daughter (a young single mom), and her grand daughter both, and when I got there, they were already there early and waiting for me
The inside of the daycare was in really good shape. I just vacuumed a little yesterday morning, but the rest looked really clean. The playground, however, looked terrible. It is being pretty well over taken by weeds, and all the playground equipment is really dirty and muddy. I hated to show them the playground, but they seemed to still love it, just knowing what it could look like, I guess.
So they walked into the daycare and immediately went on and on about how cute it was, and how much they love it. They asked a few questions, and finally asked about my rates. When I told them, they looked at me open mouthed. I thought, "Great. Too high." But then they said it was $20/week LESS than where the girl is now! Too bad I didn't know that sooner So the grandma asked for enrollment forms and I reminded her I wasn't open yet, but would e-mail the forms as soon as I had an opening date. She also knows another family who could start in June for the summer, if they chose to go with me happyface. Currently the grand daughter is in another daycare that they aren't crazy about. Too much tv time, and not enough communication on how the child's day went or what they did that day, so she can wait on me until I open . So there's a part timer to go with the full timer I already have in my care, and possibly the family she knows, which would be two more full timers for this summer! I just might open early, and go as unlicensed (as long as I stay under 6 children at once, I can do that) until this fall when I can finally get offically licensed after orientation and sending in the application and all.
