I have a wonderful DCB that started last week. Very sweet, not one to really "play around" for fun or not follow rules. Anyway, he goes to the bathroom A LOT. Like 2-4 times a hour! When I went down after nap time (2 hours or so) he proudly proclaimed, "I didn't go a lot, just 5 times!" I've gently reminded him to make sure he goes completely, and so forth, but nothing has been better. It's only been really bad that last 3 days, but I'm concerned! Add that to the fact he needs me to help him turn on the water (he's 5 and can reach it himself, but constantly soaps his hands first then can't get a grip to pull the water handle up- I've been working on reminding him he has to get his hands wet, first), and it's when I'm nursing, other families' DO/PU times, ect. Has anyone had a DCK with this- might it be something medical, or is it just something that some kids do? I'm observing when it occurs, to see if he does it when in full play-mode, but I also don't want him going home telling mom and dad I don't let him go to the bathroom, if I try to limit it, KWIM? Any ideas/advice?

I have this same issue with same age kids
I posted this and it has helped. I also passed it on to the parents
\Voiding Dysfunction: Frequent urination in kids is also noticed due to this condition wherein, some children do not empty their bladder completely because they are afraid that they may miss something or they want to rush back to play. They may urinate just enough to relieve the pressure on the bladder but not completely. If this becomes regular then the sphincter muscle that helps you with bladder control will become overactive making it harder to urinate completely. If you think that your child is exhibiting signs of voiding dysfunction then put him on a schedule so that he goes to the bathroom every 2 - 4 hrs.

I have a 5 yo dcb who did the same thing when he first started. I started documenting every time he went into the bathroom. I still have no idea why he was going so often, but I really don't think he went into the bathroom to relieve himself now.
Where my bathroom is located, I have the (younger) kids leave the door open after something got lodged into the toilet and it was quite a job getting the drain open again. They cannot go in there and just 'play' without me knowing it. But they can still go in there and not actually use the toilet, flush the toilet, wash their hands etc.
I'm thinking now that it was just the newness and in some way interested him. Once (and about the last time he was going in there excessively) he told me he had to use the potty. I told him I was going to stand right outside the door (giving him his privacy but still being able to hear whether he actually peed or not) and that I would be able to hear if he went or not.
I heard nothing and I told him that as he came out. He said, "well, I pooped". I had also told him not to flush the toilet so I checked and there was NOTHING in there.
He has slowed down a lot about going into the bathroom now. And there's a good possibility it was nerves causing him to go so often if he was in fact doing so in the beginning. I know when I get really nervous about something I have to go very often.- Flag

He sometimes forgets to close the door, and I can usually hear him so I know he's actually going. I brought up the problem with mom right away, but I don't get the sense she was too concerned about it so I'm not sure how to bring up the bladder problem again. I encourage him to try to "go" completely, not sure if there's anything else I can do that might help?- Flag
