Do any of you have any specific questions or policies that you go over with parents of incoming infants (if you do infants that is or have any ideas). I've got an infant incoming next month, a new sibling of a DCK that aged out of my program last May (Great family!!) but I want to touch base with DCM about what she expects and what I expect. Not that I think there will be any issues with this family (they are very laid back and I've been in touch with DCM since she found out she was expecting) but I just want to touch base on policies I have changed since older DCG was here and I want to give DCPs a chance to let me know what they are expecting so I can clear any issues up now, like I said I'm not expecting any but I want to be sure

I really don't do anything different for my families that have infants.. I just go over our schedule, explain group care, and then have a Q & A.happyface

For infants, my basics are that if they bring breast milk they need to bring it already in bottles and I need to have one of the bags to freeze for emergencies. If it is formula, it must be made up already in a bottle the same way and they leave me some powder for an emergency. They can choose to bring their own bed linens or I will supply them. I explain to them the general policies of when and how medicine will be given but that is for everyone.
That's about it. Oh and I also give them an overview of what baby's day will be like. Lots of holding and cuddling, tummy time, etc.
I also ask that they come with a written out description of their baby's day at home. I tell them that will help me for the first few days. Things like when baby eats, about how much, how baby naps, things that they do to soothe baby, any special instructions, etc.

The two BIGGEST issues or areas of concern I have with incoming infants are sleeping and eating.
If they are breast fed babies, I require the parent to bottle train them and then SHOW me they are capable of drinking from a bottle before leaving them in my care (thanks Nan)
I also request that they begin teaching little one to be able to sleep in the manner that I am required by law to have infants sleep here.
Otherwise, I go through policies as I would for any incoming newbie.- Flag
