Crazy Telephone Call..........You Need WHAT Hours?

I had a parent call me today. She wanted to know if I had a spot available for her son..... They need Mon-Sat from 10-7 ::
I don't usually like to say, " When would the kid see their parent", but in the case I do wonder..... It's not really my business to say anything about their choices. Btw, this mom isn't a single mom. I feel bad for their son...

I had a family I actually accepted M-F from 9:30 am until 7:30 pm. The first day felt awful. It was such a long day for the kids and as soon as mom picked them up, it was straight home to bed.

She began having her mom pick them up at 5:30 but they still were not seeing their mom until the next morning for a short time...one was in school so her time was even less.

Fortunately, I was able to encourage the mom to get her hours changed at work and she now works 8-5 and things are so much better for her kids.

I had TWO calls like that in one week. I was thinking "Do people really work that late?"

One lady said "I get off at 7:00, but if I get busy with calls, it could be as late as 8:30 or 9:00"

The other guy said "I get off work about 5:00, but by the time I get home, shower, get dinner started, and then pick the kids up, it will be about 7:00 before I get there."

One lady i know of in my area right now is searching for M-F, 3:30PM to 12:30AM. She wants to pay $100/week. smh...me and several other providers put her in her place with that.
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

That is winner winner chicken dinner for the ultimate "shun your kid" phrase I have heard in a long long time. With that schedule the kids would be having a three hour nap from four to seven every day so they would be well rested for the seven to midnight face time with Daddy.

Who did he think he was making supper for anyway? His own dang self. What provider wouldn't have had supper already served by seven?

            Ugh clueless

I had one lady who contacted me, loved the sound of my program, was all gung-ho about meeting me and setting up an interview, and wanting her son to start the following week. THen I asked her what type of schedule she would be looking at ... and she told me she worked form 6pm-11pm!!!

I can't believe this one! Maybe he is a single dad with a dirty job?? My grandfather worked in a factory and literally had to shower before he did anything else. Now the dinner part... Sounds like he needs a nanny

My neighbor is one of those who will go home shower, mess around and pick the kids up at their daycare closing time of 5. Sometimes he gets off at 2! I just can't believe he doesn't want to spend more time with his kids.

Actually, his need for a shower is somewhat valid. He works in an emergency room. So, even if I WANTED these kids, I would want him to shower and change.

But, I don't care if you get dinner started. I'm assuming there's some downtime on the couch involved in this.

This is a 100% of the reason why I do contracted hours. I ask in person their work hours. I then ask what daycare hours they need. If they are above and beyond, they don't get a spot here. I do 30 minutes maximum before and after to allow for transportation. Padding hours is not accepted here and I won't work for people who try to keep their kids in daycare for extended periods of time.

The ONLY way I would even consider extended hours was if it was 2or 3 10 to12 hour days a week and the rest off.

10-7 is late but it's only 9 hours, not too different from 6-3. Hopefully Mom sees them in the morning... Or maybe they stay up later at night and sleep in later in the morning.

I agree but they originally wanted that 7 days a week. They said they need at least 6 days a week!!
