When do you give your employees raises? Do you start them off at minimum wage or higher? How much more do you give for raises and how often?

I've only had an employee 4 mos, so no raises yet. I started her at $10/hr and she brings her own child for free, and they have free meals. She wouldn't take anything less than $10.MnMum married to DH 9 years

My old boss would give some of her regular workers about a $0.50-$1 raise every year or two (depending on business). I started off at first with only minimum wage but she quickly gave me a $1 raise.
Another thing you could do to help you employees feel appreciated (whether you give them a raise or not- with a raise you could call it a promotion) is give them a fancy job title based on the job they do the most. That way If later down the line they are looking for a job it looks better on their résumés.
EX: If they are the ones who mostly changes the diapers and clean the inside/outside play areas you can call them 'executor of health and sanitation maintenance'. If they mostly watch the kids during play time you could call them 'VP recreational supervisor'. If they lead art and craft projects you could call them "supervising project manager". If they do basic paperwork (like Quick-books or filling out food program forms) you could call them "administrative assistants". If they walk or drive SAC kids to and from school or on short outings you can call them "director of transportation".- Flag
