If you have a driver's license you should be able to backup without hitting anything. That car could have been a child, pet etc. you need to look. If one of your parents has bumper damage and did a hit and run they will be responsible. Otherwise how can it be proven?

If the car was hit hard enough to leave a dent big enough for you to see from your house then there should be paint transfer.

See if it matches your parents vehicle?

If there is no paint transfer I would be inclined to believe it was something other than another car that made it.

I'm glad, very glad, that I'm not liable.

Though I'm afraid of vindictive CPS reports.
When a person chooses to park their car on a public street THAT person assumes the liability for anything that can happen.

Obviously, if she witnessed it happen or KNOWS who did it, she can sue them but otherwise, it's on her.

Also when someone "accuses" someone else, the accuser bears the burden of proof.

Our traffic laws say that if you are pulling out of a driveway into a roadway you are at fault for accidents. We back in and drive out because of this. There are always people parked on the street.

She's going to have to prove who did it before she can blame. Probably a kid on a bike or something.

It is a pretty big dent, but there is no scratching...unlike where my dcm hit a month or so ago. SO yeah. I have no clue.

I am SO GLAD that I'm not at fault in any way. I didn't like being confronted.

I wash my hands of it.

            Thank you guys.
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

Yes, that is pretty terrible. It isn't like you control the parent's cars with a remote control (IF it was one of the parents) ... ::

Why would she continue to park at the end of your drive after she's already been hit once? Not too smart, if you ask me.

I had the same thing happen, except of of my daycare Moms was hit by one of my daycare Dads. The DCM's car was parked at the end of my driveway at pickup and she was talking to me. We saw him coming and he turned too early and 'crunch!". I stayed out of it, even though they both tried to pull me into it. The Mom was actually blocking a fire hydrant, so there was some crap about that being tossed around.

                  It was super awkward!
