    Still Not Napping Well

Ok so today is tuesday away from them for 4 days. Napping for the 7 1/2 mo old is still not good. Put him down and he napped for 40 min. I know he needs to nap longer, he gets so fussy and whiny with an hour or less. I wish I could get him to sleep longer. It makes it so hard when you have two babies and one is constantly fussing and you know he's tired. I have been just leaving him in there when he wakes up since he's not crying, he just talks and babbles in hopes leaving him in there he'll maybe get the feeling he needs to be in there longer. I don't know I just wish he'd nap longer, do they outgrow this or is this going to be how it always is?
All the babies I've had in my care have been really good sleeper except one and now this one. It was a nightmare with the other one as she got older.

Did you try waiting a little longer before you put him down? How about a sound machine that makes the relaxing sounds- waterfall, heartbeat, etc...
It would drive me crazy when they wake up early...

I had one who did this too - 4-5 20min naps a day. It was soooo frustrating!! Then one day I had his cousin in dc for the day, and after I saw all that she ate (she was a few months older, but they were the same size), I started feeding C more. He always seemed content with what I was giving him, so I didn't really think anything of it, but when offered more, he ate more.....and guess what else? He started taking regular LONG naps!! He now, at 11 months (and this started 2 months ago) will take a morning nap (anywhere from 1-2 hours) and an afternoon nap (1-3 hours).

I'm not saying this is your little one's problem, but it was something that I had never even thought of, so maybe you could try it and see.

Good luck - it's so frustrating when they don't nap well! (Now if someone can help me figure out my 15mo - he will only sleep for 20 minutes tops, but you know he's still tired! Grandma says he won't sleep at her house either, so who knows.)

Thanks for the tips, it seems to make it worse if I wait longer, like he gets overly tired and has a harder time settling. He goes down fine, no crying but just wakes up after 30 -40 min. Now today as I was writing this earlier he was awake in their babbling so I let him, well 15 min later he was asleep again and slept for another hour, he was soooo happy when he got up and was so good the next 3 hours. I'm hoping that will work too.
He's really hard to feed as well, he's "catnapper" and "grazer", he'll drink about an ounce not want anymore, then he'll want more like 15 min later and it will only be another ounce, well I wont do that so I try really hard to get him to drink the whole amount, if he doesn't well I wait unless he gets super fussy, he's gotten better with that, it took about a week though. thanks again

I have a colicy baby only sleeps for about 10-15 min. screams, and screams, nothing helps, not even holding him. I think the parents hold him all the time. He also screams and wakes up when he loses his pacifier!! I go and put it back in his mouth about 5 times, and then I am over it!!! He is 3 1/2 months old. It gets very old!!

About the "grazing" what size nipples are on the bottle? I had a little guy doing this for a while until I mentioned to his mom that I thought we needed to go up a size ( slow to fast) , she didn't know because at home she breast feeds. Problem solved, he went from and ounce here and there to drinking 6-7 ounces down in a few minutues. Just a thought

Great thought! That might end the catnaps too, with a full belly Let us know how it goes!

Thanks, I actually thought of that as well. I think I'll mention something to her about it.

I think for some babies, its just the way they are wired. My niece is the same way. Sleeps 20 min, tops. She has been like this since she was born, and is now 14 mon. My mom watches her, and drives her crazy!
