What Would Happen...

I've already posted about what's going on here today and I'm pretty certain dcm is not going to be here by 5:30 to pick up dcg. Since she was 20 minutes early today, her 10 hour daily limit will be up by 5:30 so she would also have late fees for that.

So, I'm thinking if she is not here on time, what would happen if I loaded dcg up into my car and drove her 2 miles to where her dad works and insist he keep her? He works in a restuarant as a cook. I'm thinking about asking for payment at that time as well, since I've had to fight with them every pay period to get paid. I'm just sick of this family and their irresponsibility.

Oh...I AM terming today so dad getting mad about me dropping off at work wouldn't faze me a bit...but legally, can I do this???? (transporting without permission)

If I transported without written permission and the proper insurance....I can have my license suspended.

I'm not sure about your area though. Did they say they would be there by 5:30?

I do not transport children. Period. And I most certainly would not if I didn't have permission.

I know you're upset, but unfortunately, in this business - we get what we put up with. I have a three strikes system in place... depending on the degree of seriousness, sometimes it only takes one or two before I will term.

Because you are now at your wits end and are terming, I would wait until mom comes to get the child. I would also wait until you have fees in hand. If she doesn't pay you at pick up, let her know her current balance, that services are now ended and that she has until whatever date/time to pay you in full before you take legal action.

Don't drop the child off at dad's work. Don't put yourself and your business in jeopardy by transporting without permission. Don't stoop to this family's level.

I wouldn't try it. Really don't think it is a good idea. If you are sure you will be terming today than call DCM and let her know that you are sure she will be late and for this reason you are terming and needs to pick up her child on time. At 5:30 call dcd and all emergency contacts over and over again. Let her know your plan. And if you are really worried, I would just ask her to pick up now and term. If she made it clear to you that she will not be on time as per your needs than tell her you need to close for the day early.

I really would not interfere with dcds job, possibly causing him to lose it. When dcm does pick up just term and be done with it.

I would absolutely not drive her anywhere without permission. Wait it out - I KNOW how hard and frustrating that is. Have the child at the front door, coat on, belongings packed up and ready to go. Hand the mom the term letter and be done with it.

If you drive that child anywhere, be prepared for complaints to licensing. You would end up with a big mess on your hands, and it just really isn't worth it.

Ok...thanks everyone. I'm just already so overwhelmed with both my parents being in the hospital and trying to get my dad into a nursing home TODAY, that it's absolutely necessary they pick up on time. When I told dcm this morning all she wanted to do was argue over it. I told her if she can't pick up on time then she can't stay today because it's imperative I am done by 5:30.

I could tell she was mad as she signed dcg in and left without looking at me. So...thanks to you guys for saving me from taking her to dcd's work. I probably wouldn't have but I'm sure by 5:31 I will be angry enough to do just about anything.

You should be angry. I would call her at 4:00, and let her know you need to be done at exactly 5:30. Inform her that if she is late, you will immediately start calling her father and all other emergency contacts. Also remind her that she must have payment at pick-up.

Hang in there. So sorry about what is going on with your parents. That is so hard, and so emotionally draining. It makes daycare problems seem so huge. I feel for you, and hope you can get through this tough time!

i was in a simular situation just this week...BUT i was the parent.. it was a big mess of communication errors and what not but she transported my child to her sons baseball game without my permission-she gave a permission slip at signing him up and i marked that i did not want her to transport-she did anyway.

as a parent i would rather have showed up late and been terminated at that time.

in CA, licensing could give a rats *** about transporting with or without permission..it has nothing to do with her daycare license BUT it could be violating a state law which could be just as messy for the DCP to mess with..

I would have the phone ready to call at 5:30, start with DCM, then immediately call the restaurant where DCD works and tell the person who answers that it is DCK'd provider and that DCD needs to come pick up immediately. Hope it doesn't come to that- do they know they are being termed?

Also curious, did DCM sign in the correct (early) time this AM, so you can be sure to get the overtime charge if needed? (Some people can be so disrespectful, I'm thankful for my DCFs)

If you have already made up your mind that you will be terminating today I would call DCM now and have here pick up dcg and hand her the termination letter when she walks in the door. If you can't be late tonight this is likely the only option you have that will 100% not make you late. I wouldn't even wait until 5:30pm to be proactive on my end if I felt so strongly that a family was going to be late no matter what and I HAD TO BE ON TIME.

I understand why you would want to drop her off at her dad's work. I once had to drop two children off at their mother's work with termination letter in hand when she was 2.5 hours late with literally no contact. She knew I wouldn't keep the kids late so she decided just to leave them with me and not tell me that was her plan and just avoid me until she could come. BUT I can't get in trouble with licensing for transporting without permission as I don't need a license where I live to run the same amount of children as licensed providers nor do I have a transporting permission form in my contract. Parent's have never told me no I can't transport because I have never asked so I was in a better situation.

I'd terminate care effective immediately if they are late at all. That is just terribly irresponsible and inconsiderate.

You have enough on your plate lately and your dcps are being so rude. I hope all goes as well as it possibly can for you tonight no matter what goes down
