    Odd CL

I provide two nutritious snacks (A.M. and P.M.) along with lunch. The cost of food is included in the price of childcare. I do ask that parents provide juice once a month, as I do not put a limit on a child's thirst.

I just thought this was such an odd request I had to laugh and shake my head. Seriously? She'll provide snacks and lunch but not juice? Why not just include the juice? So does she provide milk?

But the funny part to me was that she says she needs a lot of juice provided because she won't put a limit in a child's thirst.... Ummmmmmm, water???? :P

So bizarre. I had DCP do that a month ago. DCB had an upset stomach, so they limited his milk intake (DCB is a milk addict). So they asked if they could bring apple juice for him to drink instead... Why not just water ?!?

I have had parents act like me giving their child water is a punishment and act as if I am cheap.

I give milk with lunch and either milk or juice with our scheduled snack times...but water throughout the day. It amazes me that parents think water is a bad thing! My daycare kids drink gallons of water!

The CL provider must think there's something wrong with water too!

My daycare kids only get juice on special occasions (and I dilute it then). We don't drink juice in my family and I have adult and teen children.

Daycare kids get milk at breakfast and lunch and water at all other times.

500 mls of milk daily is the recommended limit for my age group.

They eat enough fruit and veggies that they don't need juice to drink.

I rarely serve juices as well...and when I do it's diluted. I learned this when I had a couple very poorly behaved foster children. There are dyes in fruit juices which can cause behavioral issues. At that time I eliminated anything with dyes in it and have continued to follow that rule even though I no longer have those children.

Not to mention all the sugar. So it's either milk or water here. MAYBE once a month I'll serve apple juice.

I agree that some parents act as if water is a punishment. They need water! We have milk with meals, water during the day and water at pm snack. Juice is served very rarely.

Some people really think water is a punishment. Alot are shocked that I don't even have juice in the house.

when some adults dont even drink water often, you know they are not giving it to their kids.. i know some ppl that only drink it when there is no other choice, and will run out to the store to keep from drinking it!..
i loooooove water..i am always trying to encourage drinking it esp with my dck's..so they wont grow up hating it like their parents LOL

If breakfast doesn't include a fruit, I give juice. Same for snack. Otherwise it's milk with breakfast and lunch and water with snack.

I stopped serving juice a little over a year ago. We have milk for breakfast and lunch, and water for snack. The only time we do juice is at "parties" for a treat.

Yep totally weird. I wouldn't take my child to her. I rarely serve juice and if I do it's on special occasions and even then it's diluted at least to 50/50. Non-stop juice would scare me . Do you know how much sugar is in that juice?!!?!

Kinda makes me wonder what her definition of "nutritious" is

I agree with it being odd, and it would turn parents off in my opinion. I wouldn't put a limit on a child's thirst, but I would (and do) put a limit on juice intake. 8 ounces per day. The older kids get a choice of taking it straight or half water/half juice so as to have 2 servings per day, but since the food program tells me to limit juice to 8 ounces (and my pediatrician recommends it as an occasional treat, not a daily thing), I do limit it (and I use only 100% juice). Kids can have all the water they want, along with their milk at meals.

That grosses me out to think about how much sugar is being pumped into her current/potential daycare children.

I drink 1 ounce of orange juice a day diluted in 8 ounces of sparkling water. It's my fake wine while I'm pregnant. :: When I'm not pregnant, I don't drink any juice.

Juice AND milk are loaded with sugar. No juice in my daycare EVER, and milk only at lunch. Water, water, water!
