Need Help, Constant Peeing, Have Any Tricks?

Two of my 5 year old DCK are constantly having to go pee. Sometimes it could be just 10 minutes after they went.

Both ruled out any health issues. They are not related

I realize that they are not emptying their bladder all the way and they are also having a hard time to stop what they are doing and go to the bathroom.

I have tried asking them to count to 10 slowly while going pee and make sure they empty it all out, but it is not working.

Any other ways that I can break this habit????

I PT both of these kids and they were NOT put on the toilet every 15-30 min.

Thanks for your help in advance

My parents used to fill a cup with water and slowly pour it into the sink. Asked her if she could tinkle longer than the cup

Got her to empty all the way when she was prompted that way.

thanks willow that is a great idea. But I am not too sure if the kids will let me in the bathroom??? at 5, they are pretty much independent and dont want me in there any more.....

But I guess I can always try that and see what happens.......

DCG of mine has same issue... they've taken her to a urologist, but no real medical issues. The pelvic floor is tight, so they've told her to make sure her posture is straight up and down when she's voiding, make her sit there for a decent length of time, and to press 'hard' (not too hard) while wiping - it seemed to help DCG, but she needs many reminders. To avoid going, she's really worked out her pelvic floor muscles and now they're too tight and it's more difficult for her to void in one sitting.

        Good Luck!!

I just had to chime in, my DS2 was doing this recently. He's 5. Apparently boys this age don't like to stop playing when they feel the urge to poop. So they hold it and after a few days or weeks they get real backed up. They can mistake the urge to poop when constipated for having to pee and run to the bathroom to tinkle a little pee all through the day. Also constipated bowels can put pressure on the bladder making it feel like they have to pee. It looks a lot like a bladder infection in frequency but there isn't much volume, meaning they go to the bathroom frequently but don't pee much urine.

Anyway I learned all this after two trips to the doc to figure out what was going on with him. We started feeding him avocado and straight juice (not diluted, he's only ever had 50% water/50% juice) which worked right away and for days he pooped two or three times a day until he got un-backed up And that fixed the problem!

Maybe this is the case with your little DCBs? Our Pedi said that this is extremely common in boys ages 4-8.

thanks so much for chiming in and sharing your ideas. I found this on a google search, perhaps this could also be the case. I will try and watch out for constipation too...

\Voiding Dysfunction: Frequent urination in kids is also noticed due to this condition wherein, some children do not empty their bladder completely because they are afraid that they may miss something or they want to rush back to play. They may urinate just enough to relieve the pressure on the bladder but not completely. If this becomes regular then the sphincter muscle that helps you with bladder control will become overactive making it harder to urinate completely. If you think that your child is exhibiting signs of voiding dysfunction then put him on a schedule so that he goes to the bathroom every 2 - 4 hrs.

Just FYI, my son's poops didn't look hard or round like constipation, but he was significantly backed up and we only found that after we started feeding him things to make him poop

After he started voiding his bowels more the frequent peeing stopped instantly!

Oh and I also set up a stool to elevate his feet while on the toilet (aids in voiding) and gave him special books to keep him in there longer. But these are things I would think DCPs have to do at home maybe?

Can always check into the squatty potty... the 'potty stool', LOL :: Can't believe it's actually something sold. HA!

Yep, probably needs to poop, or to excited to sit on the potty when all the fun stuff is happening At least it's not something more major...we were worried about diabetes - but it came back normal.

I have a 5 yo boy who does the same thing. yesterday I actually started keeping a log of when he went to pee...every 15-20 minutes. BUT I am very near the bathroom and don't 'hear' him going, then he flushes the toilet and washes his hands.

Today, he had JUST gone to the bathroom, and right after he returned another boy went. I told the 3rd boy to go then as it was time to lie down for nap. Then the first boy claimed he had to go. I wasn't going to let him as I felt he was playing games to just go into the bathroom...but he insisted he had to go. I never heard any sound of him going, so still not sure if he's actually going, or just playing.

My bathroom is in a position where they can leave the door open and nobody else can see them, but I can tell if they're doing what they're supposed to be doing in there. I had to insist they leave the door open when someone clogged the toilet with something and it took me 3 days to get it completely open so it would flush properly. It flushed, just not right and you could tell there was a blockage.

He just got up to go again...this time I told him I was not going to watch him go, but that I was standing right outside bathroom door and was going to listen to hear if he goes or not. Never heard anything.

He gets off toilet and I told him to go lie back down, but not to flush the toilet because I didn't want that to wake the others. He told me he pooped...since I never heard any peeing sounds. I looked in toilet and NOTHING.

YUP...gonna keep an eye on this one!!!!
