    Dr Appointments...urg!

I need 2 OB appointments and those can only be done during the day time hours. I thought I was lucky enough to have a dr. Open til 8 but now I'm in a bind.

I only have 1 dcg along with my own 2 kids. So I thought I would just bring them along as the appointments are just talking and possibly getting my blood drawn...

How would I bring it up with the parents that I need to go to the dr and if its ok to bring their daughter with me?

I haven't traveled by car with her before.

I don't drive so this has never been an issue for me. I'd try to get a late afternoon appointment and ask for early pickup or permission to travel that way they have the option of either picking their child up early or not.

I'd say go for a morning appt but we all know those aren't reliable for you to get home on time for a late drop off.

I would let them know ASAP that you have some appointments coming up that can only be scheduled during the day, and that you are willing to have their child come along. If they are not comfortable with that, they will have to find an alternative. I would NEVER take a child anywhere without prior parental consent. In my state, there is paperwork that has to be filled out if you are transporting a child.

Tell them now. Are you obviously pregnant at this point? They should be informed that there will be a series of appointments and they may either be inconvenienced or you will need to travel with their child. The alternative is if you have someone who could come to your house and stay with all 3 children with their permission.

When I was expecting I had a neighbour the kids and parents knew who would come by for any appointments I had. I would always take the last of the day so the kids would leave soon after.

Permission slip with date, times (overestimate), destination.

Permission slip for transportation, add in who provides carseat- you or parent.

Schedule the appt for a late afternoon, if at all possible.

I would hand both to dcp with my apologies for it being last minute.

"Hey dcp, sorry to drop this on you, but I have an appt that needs to be this week. I am willing to take dcg with me, if you are comfortable with that here are the forms giving me permission to do so. If not, I will need you to pick up early on (day/time)."

I was able to make it at 8 am and they don't drop off til their scheduled time of 9:15. So that day I will be enforcing their scheduled drop off time. It's a 30-40 min appointment close to my house.

It's such a stupid new system my dr office is doing. So roundabout! I have to meet with a pregnancy educator to teach me about being pregnant... Like I don't know it's my 3rd! Lol and in only 8 weeks so I don't want to go ahead and tell anyone just yet.

If you are willing to take the dcg with you to the appointment, I would inform the parents you have the appointment and would either have to have her picked up early, or have other arrangements entirely for the day of your appointment OR that you would be more than ok with taking her with you if it was alright with them.

If they allow you to take her though, be prepared for them expecting you to take her to every appointment you may have in the future during dc hours...some of which I'm sure wouldn't be a possibility.

On Monday, April 15, 2013, I have a Dr. appointment at 8:00 AM. I will need DCG dropped off no earlier than your scheduled time of 9:15 AM to ensure I am home for drop off.

Any other ways to phrase this? I'm not so good with letters.

I would absolutely NOT advise traveling with any daycare children under any circumstance...with or without a permission slip.

I would just post a sign and send everyone notice:

                    Dear Families:

I need to inform you that the daycare will not be able to open until 915am on Monday, April 15.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

That sounds fine to me. I have had where I had to drop ds at school and I just informed the parents that I had some things to do in the morning before their scheduled drop off time, but would be back for their contracted time, so if you show up early-I won't be here.

Thank you! I hope this one sticks! Another reason I don't want to tell anyone...yet!

I don't transport, nor do I want to. I also wouldn't want to take along someone else's kids to a personal appointment, but that's just me.

If it were me, I'd let parents know asap and tell them it was the only time I could get etc. and that I have to go. In fact, I've done it in the past and it is what it is. Everyone is pretty understanding and frankly a healthy provider is better then one who needs things looked after! Even if it's nothing serious, you want to go and the Dr. wants you there, period.

I guess I feel too like as providers we don't often put ourselves first, so doing do every now and then is good for us!

ETA: Just caught up to the posts...CONGRATS and def GO! Don't worry, just GO!
