    And Here I Sit....

I'm sitting here guessing I have the day off. It drives me crazy that parents can't make a firm commitment ahead of time. I'm only open Mon, Tues, Wed this week. I have one family on vacation which I knew. The other family has grandparents in town for the week. At drop off Thursday Dad said that he thought they were going to keep them one or two days. I told him other family was on vacation so just let me know so I'm not sitting here wondering. He said ok. Other grandma picked up and I reminded her the same thing. She said that with grandparents in town she didn't think I would see the kids at all this week but she would make sure to tell mom/dad to let me know. This is my family that is usually here regardless from 8-5:15. It's now 8:45. No call. No show. I get paid either way but it would have been nice to either stay in bed later or at least lounge in my pj's on this gloomy Monday. Guess I can go about my day. Think I will plan to take my kids for frozen yogurt this afternoon since it's supposed to clear out and be warm and they are on Spring Break.

That's rude, but I wouldn't mind as much since it means a paid day off! Enjoy your day!

Me too...I just don't get parents these days. So d***** irresponsible. I'm really frustrated with them all about now. And I have NONE of my regular kids here, but accepted a kid just for this week who I used to have in care. If I had known this I wouldn't have agreed to take her and I could have had the week off

I have it in my handbook that if someone no calls, no shows (30 minutes after typical arrival time) I have the right to close with pay for the day. If they show up 30 minutes after arrival without telling me, I do NOT answer the door or phone.

Yep, same here.... if you can't pick the phone up and call or text, then I am not going to sit around and wait all day.

No call for 30 minutes and I will not accept the child(ren) into care and I still charge for the day.

There really is no excuse for not communicating.

Never called. Never showed. I knew when they weren't here by 9 that they weren't coming so I didn't just wait. They NEVER come past 8:30 and I don't allow drop offs after 9 unless pre-approved. I had some breakfast and went about my day. Done 2 loads of laundry, cleaned my kitchen, swept and vacuumed the downstairs and now getting ready to steam mop. Then maybe some outside yardwork since it is beautiful out. I have all my windows open and adult music playing while I clean LOL!!

My contract and policies say that if they are not here at their scheduled time or running late and I do not get a call or notice that after 15 minutes I assume that they are not coming and then I don't wait for them.

I'm not sure if you have a policy like this or not but even if not if they are already that late and you have no notice I'd print up a quick flyer saying that you are closed for the day and change your voicemail message to say the same and then don't answer your door or phone all day.

I'd have already jumped in the car or took off on foot if necessary to be away from the house...not what YOU want to do though if you're looking forward to a nice lazy day.. If it was here, they'd probably show up at lunch time thinking I was going to feed them...which I would NOT be doing...I'd be sure the doors are locked , the phone turned down and the windows shuttered so they can't see if you're home...LOL! That's just ignorant to not let you know in good time...
