Why Do I Always Get My Hopes Up? I Should've Learned By Now!

Dcd mentioned that dcm would pick up after snack, which is at 3:00. This is my family that never comes until closing so I got all excited. My whole family is at our cabin except me and I'm just waiting to leave and join them so getting off early sounded great!

Well, it's after snack alright! It's past 4:30 and here I sit waiting..........

Whenever a family says they are picking up earlier than their normal scheduled time, I hand them a slip of paper that says

"Schedule change" on the top of it and "I will be picking up at _____ time today"

It is no bigger than a post it note but I have them fill in the time and sign/date it. I stick it to their weekly schedule.

If they are late then I charge them the appropriate late fee ($1 per minute)

I know that seems strict but seriously, how annoying is it for you right now that they are so late when they are the ones who said they'd be early?

No kidding! I'd rather they not tell me and then if they actually do come early it would be a pleasant surprise!

Sorry they didn't show when they said. It is very frustrating. I know I am trying not to get my hopes up for next week. I have one family on vacation. It is spring break here and I am only open Mon, Tues, and Wed. My other family dad told me at drop off that they might only be here a couple of days. Grandma picked up and she said that she didn't think they will be here at all. I told them both to make sure someone lets me knowif they weren't coming. It would be awesome to be off all week with my kids. But this is also the family that brings their kids every.single.day from 8-5:15 regardless of whether they are home or not.

And now I have something else to add to my collection of daycare policies... Thank you.

I had a mom tell me that she would be picking up at 1pm. At drop off she asks if she can pick up more around 2pm, I said yes. I actually texted her at 2:45pm ask asked for an ETA. She responds I will be there in 10 min.

She shows up, I am fuming, I had made plans. Then goes on to say that she was getting her eyebrows waxed. I was very, very, very upset.

It was a gentle reminder that you have to teach people how to treat you. She asked yesterday to change her day from Tuesday to Monday. I got a drop off time and pick up time and told her that those times would need to be firm as I make plans around drop off and pick up. I no longer assume people just have common courtesy.
