A Few Ruin Everything. Good Friday Vent

Here I sit at work on Good friday......ALONE

This makes me angry because I could be HOME in BED ASLEEP. I don't have kids and I live across town.

I have two families that couldn't make up their minds about if they were going to spend the day home with their kids or bring them to me all day.

"Oh, we will let you know in the morning"

Good Friday is not a paid holiday for me and I don't mind working it for parents who need to be at work. Since it isn't in my contract as OFF I only get slightly grumpy (and never to their face) about parents who chose to bring kids to me when they are home). BUT You bet your bottom I am upset when they can't give me a yes or no if they are going to be here and when it is a "maybe" they tell me it could be at 7:30 so I get up and come to work to sit here all morning with no call or text.

Just as a added bonus the parents who want to come..... both sets are off today and want to 'get stuff done around the house' the kicker is both families have had a parent home ALL WEEK ON SPRING BREAK and have not spent one minute with the kids at home.


I have been doing daycare for 9 years and some years I get Good Friday off and some years I don't. That is the way I like it. I WANT to be here for the families if they want care this day, but I have always known the day or two before if they need me or not. Looks like they ruined it for everyone and this is going in the new contract as a day off.

((HUGS)) That is frustrating. I would either take it off in the future or if you want to be there for your parents, give them a deadline. Make them commit to it (and charge them for it) ahead of time.

I would be mad too! I think in the future, if you don't get a straight answer about whether they need you or not, I would stay home.

There are several things that I cannot deal with and being indecisive is one of them. They either need you or they don't and simply assuming you have nothing better to do but to be at their beck and call is so rude and disrespectful!

Did anyone say for sure they are coming, if not, high tail it home. If there time has come and gone and they didn't say for sure, then they obviously don't need care today. Go enjoy your Good Friday and next year tell them they have to let you know the Friday before.

I haven't been, since I got married in Decemeber I have been spending too much time on a TTC forum lovethislovethis Hopign I get to me a Mommy soon!!!

Daycare things have also calmed down for the time being and hopefully stay that way!!

I am like you, I don't mind working if parents need me because they are working. In the past I've put out a sign up sheet with a three child minimum. The names needed to be written down 5 days ahead of time. I figure if a parent is working that day, they certainly know it more than 5 days ahead of time. If I don't have the three child minimum, I close. If they put the child's name down and cancel without a 48 hour notice they were responsible for payment. If they were constantly putting their kids names down and then not showing, I would tell them that I needed three kids in addition to theirs...

I'm glad you get to start your weekend early! I have a full house today!

Hope you enjoy your early start to your day and your longer weekend! I have all here today. Pretty sure one has a parent home. Opposite parent dropped off (never happens) and I made a comment that dcm must be at an early meeting. Dcd, just said, oh, ummmm, gee I'm late, gotta go. Dude I don't care, the other ones have to be here today anyway, but just TELL me.

Set a deadline where the parents must let you know by. The day before by close of business day is a good rule. If they tell you nothing, you will assume they are not coming and will not accept their child into care the next day, period. Even if you are there. Yes, I would turn someone away at the door for that.

I also have a deadline where morning drop offs must be done by. Most providers that do this set it at 9AM. If you arent there by 9, you are considered absent for the day, still pay for the day, will not be accepted into care after that time even if you are at the door.

I know how you feel but at least I'm at home already. I had ALL of my families scheduled to day tell me they were coming (I don't take good Friday off) and out of all of them only two actually showed up, one of them being my nephew. DCD will be picking up DCG early today at 3pm and my nephew is being picked up any minute along with my DD because my MIL is taking them to the movies. So I only have my DS and one DCG until 3pm .

Needless to say today is a cleaning day and I'm totally taking it easy. At least my cleaning will be done and I won't have to do it tomorrow.
