    Dinosaur Unit

In May I am planning a dinosaur unit. I have never done a dinosaur unit before. I have ordered just about every book from Scholastic about dinosaurs. I have a sensory bin idea, with plastic dinosaurs, tools, river rocks, black beans/gravel, laminated dinosaur bones, trees, volcanoes, etc. But other than the books and sensory bin, I am out of ideas. I have pinned quite a few cute crafts, but would love some suggestions of some of your favorite dinosaur themed things....

most of my ideas are from here:

Pre-K & Preschool theme ideas for learning about dinosaurs Find more Dinosaur Activities for Pre-K Books Dinosaur Large Motor Games Dinosaur Herd Game

They also enjoyed the song "We are the dinosaurs marching, marching ...." by Laurie Berkner I think. It was on Youtube.

I painted dog bones white and hide them in the sand box for a fossil dig. Also baked a few salt dough pieces to look like heads.

My DCKs love doing ice digs! It's a huge hit here! I fill tupperware and large bowls with dinos, cover them with water and freeze, then the DCKs get to chip away at the ice. I make different levels of ice covered dinos for the different ages. The older kids like a challenge so I mix big and little dinos in large chunks of ice, the younger get big dinos just barely incased. The all love it.

Someone recently posted a link to a "Dinosaur Stomp" video. It was really cute and would get the kiddies moving.

Yes, that song is Laurie Berkner and I can guarantee that the children will request to dance to that song LONG after the unit is over. ::

I just ordered these guys from Amazon yesterday. I can't wait for them to arrive. And I've got plans for sand play and sensory play, and I printed out materials from dino units on both 2 Teaching Mommies and Over the Big Moon. I'm not done with our plans yet I have to wait for the lamintor pockets in that Amazon order! ::
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

There are also pictures in the arts and crafts group that we did the time before this. They are some of the first pictures I uploaded to he group so go to the end first.

When we did dinos I painted a watermelon white and placed it in my play yard. I cut out huge dino foot prints and spray painted dino tracks thru the yard to the "egg". Then we went out and discovered the huge egg.
The kids had an awesome time.
here are a few songs too.
