    Parent Upset

So.... With all the advice from most providers and blackcat I decided to enforce my sick policy. Honestly.... I was having a backbone issue anyways .....

Today one parent walks in at 6:30 saying of dcb was up all night and has some fever right now (btw he got his shots yesterday) so I look at her and say "I'm sorry but I can't accept him" she looks at me and says "please I can't miss work" sorry I can't I have to follow my policies and its against licensing regulations. So she left and was upset.

Btw she is my relatives roommate and guess what??? My relative is stuck watching him my relative calls me this morning upset too asking me what was wrong with him and why I sent him home .... Yada yada.... So I told her you more than anyone else knows the reasons when u had ur baby with a licensed provider and know how strict these policies are, and she said NOTHiNG

She will get over it, and one day she will appreciate knowing you won't allow another sick child around hers.

growing a backbone feels GREAT! It also gets easier each and every time you use it.

It is hard to enforce your policies but luckily MOST parents "get it" the first time you have to do it and are never trouble again.

I am so happy that you stood up for yourself! You shouldn't have to be stuck watching a child who isn't feeling well.

Sounds like DCM needs to make sure she has back up care or a plan of action for when HER child gets sick.

Parents need to have a back up plan and I always discuss that at my interviews. I will not watch ill children and do not appreciate parents putting guilt trips on me. Its HER child, HER problem.

Yes she definitely needs back up, her employer made a comment to her too about her child being sick a lot. Well I'm sorry but I'm not going to be stuck here watching a sick child. Poor thing had green mucus, fever, and throwing up.
Thanks again for your advice I just hope I don't lose any parents

good for you. If she is sick alot, then the mother needs to look into why the child is sick. Its amazing how many kids don't even go to the dr's and the illness lingers on forever. Even their houses can make them sick, I have one family who has a dog that they keep in their area where the furnace is, well the kids are always sick so I tell the mom that she needs to clean the furnace filter, well apparently the filter was full of dog hair.

I soften it a little by saying "If it were another child, you wouldn't want them here getting yours sick..." Sometimes it helps them see it from another perspective.

Even if you do lose families....it is still worth standing up for yourself and not letting parents walk on you.

You just have to really know AND believe that your self-worth, time and sanity are worth far more than clients who disrespect you and/or treat you like dirt.

There's the problem.... She don't take him to the doctor. When I enrolled him couple of weeks ago I knew he was missing couple shots so I told her I would give her 2 weeks to get them done, she finally did yesterday, this is the reason why child got fever. However, he is always catching something if its not pink eye, is cough, fever, constantly runny nose etc . I personally can't give her any preference just because she's my relatives BFF YKWIM
