As with last year.. I debated for months on what dates to close for holidays in December...
I finally closed down the entire week of Christmas and reopened the day after New Year's Day..
I gave all clients 6 months notification...

Calender is similar this year..
I've looked at it over and over..
I finally made my final decision today.. and sent out notification to all clients... I think 9 full months advance notification is sufficient...
Daycare will be CLOSED
Monday - Friday December 23 - 27
and Monday - Wednesday December 30 - Jan 1..
REOPEN Thursday, January 2....

I am closed December 23rd through January 2nd and reopening on Friday January 3rd (hoping I don't have anyone). I will be following our county schools calendar because I have teachers kids so I will be opening on the Friday because it is a teachers workday.

Thanks for getting me looking at the calendar! I use a school year calendar (Aug-Jul) so I haven't made my 2013-14 calendar yet. Yes, It looks like I will be doing the same thing as you. 12 days off Yippee!happyface

I'm taking Dec 23rd to the 27th and then Jan 1st. I can't wait!!! It's going to be AWESOME. In fact I just typed up the 2013 calendar today and am handing it out tomorrow. And probably posing one on my welcome board in the hallway.

I'm also closed from the 23rd to the 2nd . Yay!! And this summer I'm beginning to close for two consecutive weeks! Yippeeee! . But that means basically between those weeks I barely take any holiday. just 4 major Federal holidays.

There was a time... 20 years ago.. when I would have never considered closing down for that length of time.. and expected payment..
It took me until June last year to fully commit to taking the 11 days straight that I had.. and I have known for some months now that the calender was almost the same for this December.. I feel a little bad about it..
BUT..
FACTS is FACTS...
I've had December 24-26.. and New Year's Eve and New Year's Day in my Parent Handbook for over 15 years...
so.. there's no debate that daycare would be closed for those days.. it just seems silly to open Monday 23rd .. only to close for 3 days.. then reopen Friday 27th...
I allow myself 2 weeks of Paid vacation per year.. since 2010...
I have 1 week in late May...
and the fact is..
this stretch is ONLY using 3 vacation days.. the rest are LISTED Holiday dates.. and weekends...
I'd do it even if I weren't going to recieve pay for those dates..
but..

I tell prospective parents during the interview that I'm always closed from Christmas to New Year, and at least 1 week in the summer. I also tell them that my paid vacation time is comparable to any other professional who has been in their field 18+ years.
