Cleaning Toys...... The Never Ending Job!

Has anyone put the little hot wheels cars in the dishwasher to clean them? I normally sit and wipe each one with bleach water! I'm so sick of doing it that way. I'm hoping that throwing them in the dishwasher will work

I don't have hot wheels in my daycare, but my older kids have them in their rooms... I usually just throw them in the sink with some bleach water. I've never done the dishwasher with those, but it should work... Maybe in a garment laundry bag.

Probably the worst that would happen would be loosing the stickers or some of the paint. Good luck!

I do it all the time. I put the little cars in a garment bag or in large noodle strainer so that they don't fall through the bars. The hardest part about this (and other toys with crevices) is having to shake all the water that gets trapped inside and then having to lay the toys out to dry. I do my toy cleaning on Saturdays so that the toys like this can dry overnight.

I thought maybe you had tried this I've seen in other posts that you clean a lot with your dishwasher. I'm trying more and more toys in there all the time!

Many of my toy cars (not just Matchbox but also Hotwheels, Disney Cars, and even the cheap discount store metal cars) have chipped paint but I'm not exactly sure if the dishwasher has anything to do with it at all or not, the kids are pretty rough with them and some are pretty old anyway. We put them all in a plastic bin and the cars get manhandled by the kids while they sift around in the bin finding the right car.

Yeah I put EVERYTHING that I possibly can that isn't made of wood or has electrical parts in it into the dishwasher. Okay i'll just be honest here and admit that even some stuff with electrical parts get thrown in there (like the Little People bus, boat, airplane, safari jeep etc) in hopes that maybe, just maybe they'll stop working but I put batteries back in them the other day to test them and unfortunately they still work and make noise
