I am so sick of this kid's poop....

He's 17 months old and poops no less than four times a day..just here at my house. Who knows how often at home.

But, it's never, ever solid. He gets a rash the second it's in his diaper, and it often comes out of the diaper. He poops as soon as he eats anything.

He's also extremely thin. So, no matter what diapers we try, it tends to come out at the legs because there isn't enough of him to fill in the gaps.

I know there's nothing anybody can do... I just want to vent about this, because i'm tired of wiping poop off of his spots, his hands, his legs etc.

(and he wakes up from every nap with a poopy diaper)

His parents don't seem to mind...I think it's a "my kid is the light of my life, I even love his poop" mentality. Which I can remember a little bit from my own children's babyhood. "Awww.. what a cute poop.. I bet you feel better now"

But, when it's someone else's child, i'm thinking "Really? Again? WHat's it going to take to make you stop this?"

I would think it's an allergy to what he's eating - or something! It's not normal for every BM to be loose and for every day to be so frequent. I would express concern to the parents.

I had a similar situation with one of my dck. The parents were first time parents and had no clue that this wasn't a normal thing for a kid of this age. Turns out he's highly allergic to dairy. Elliminated all dairy, now no issues.

sounds like my ds. they need to eliminate all milk, citrus, juice, and wheat

Then slowly after a few weeks if things normalize all each back in. It was dairy and pork fat for ds. keep a food diary and write everything down.
      It:: will wait

Look into Celiac disease. We had a little boy who got HORRIBLE diaper rashes at an age (like this boy) when it isn't really normal to get rashes anymore - he also had unformed loose stools. He also was very small, and had poor hair growth, weak tooth enamel (had a chipped tooth) and was specifically delayed in both walking and speaking (delays in those areas are common for celiac). From what I've read removing gluten from the child's diet can help immensely.

The DCB I spoke of had parents with a similar attitude, and when we tired to talk about it they ignored us because nothing could be wrong with their perfect child. I still wholeheartedly believe that he had Celiac, unfortunately mom felt "picked on" when we offered possible solutions for his delays (which she didn't acknowledge). So I can't say if it was ever diagnosed.

I IMMEDIATELY thought food allergies, too (coming from a lady with Celiacs). That is not normal. Have you brought that up to the parents as a possibility and a BIG suggestion to get the child tested???

I will bring that up. He has seen several different doctors, even at the children's hospital about his weight. He's smaller than most 6 month olds. It's been an issue most of his life.

If he eats jelly, ranch dressing, or ketchup, he breaks out in a rash around his mouth.

He's not delayed in any way... and has no behavior issues at all...just a happy scrawny little thing.

I had one like this up till about age 3 or so. They would poop at least 4+ times a day! It was all kinds of poop too-solid, runny, loose, etc. Also, would break out pretty quick if you didn't change them. Hard one to potty train as they were always having to have a bm and they weren't the usually go and hide kid either, just went.

It was always my suspicion that the child was just eating wwwaaayyy to much fruit. They ate breakfast that the parents made and it usually always had two fruits, same with lunch, and probably dinner. Once we were on the fp, and they were getting less fruit and more veggies it started going to more regular bms and maybe only once a day.

So I guess I would wonder, does he eat alot of fruit?

I have one similar, same age, but he only poops little pellet like stools, almost like rabbit poop, but that little bit smells horrible. Poops constantly throughout the day, drives me nuts because it stinks so bad! He doesn't eat well so at home he mainly eats snack foods(cookies, crackers, etc) so I think that contributes to his weird stools. Here he eats what we eat or doesn't eat at all, so eventually he will eat what is in front of him for me, Mom & Dad just aren't that stern at home.
