    another maternity leave question

So did you all wait until you went into labor to call your families or were you induced, or have a set close date? I am in the process of being licensed but I read on other threads some of you went back to work, the day after coming home from the hospital! I told the family I am watching my plan was to take 2 weeks, but now I am thinking maybe I should have my back up person come here and be with me? My back up person is my mom.... but she watches my nephew. Would that legally be allowed? I'm just not even sure now if I should work up til I go into labor, or take the week before my due date off and the week after and hope baby comes in those 2 weeks, and whatever time I get off I get off... or what! Help! Im hormonal and worried ::

I will inform my clients upon going into labor. Baby will come when he/she wants to and closing for a week before your estimated due date and a week after doesn't guarantee that baby will be born between week 39-41. Some babies come earlier. Some babies come later.

I am closing completely for 2 weeks and will then have an assistant help me for the following 2 weeks (either someone hired, or if I'm unable to hire someone due to finances then my Mom volunteered).

Your licensing department will have rules for what is required of a substitute (if you will not be there) or an assistant (if you will be present). You will need to check into that and do what you need to!

I would never be induced for the reason of giving my families advance notice. I am closing for 1 week, then my substitute will be in charge for 6-8 we eks. They can deal with it however they want. Take vacation, have another person on call to care for their kid, etc.

As long as you are still in ratio with your new baby and your nephew, your mom can be there. Your mom needs to have SUIDS training, first aid, CPR, and possibly 6 hours of childcare related training depending on how many hours she will be helping out in the year.

If I am going through the process of being licensed, she needs to have all those things completed too? Because if she doesnt, then it sounds like my mom will not be allowed to care for the kids at all.... I haven't even completed all the training.... I am in the early stages of this.....
