Inspection Today

So I have my relicensing inspection today, had two minor paperwork issues but othing serious.....I didn't have last names on my attendance sheet. I only have 6 kids, I know their last names, it never even crossed my mind to put last names on it. I guess I have never had 2 kids with the same name so it has never come up. Easy fix!

I'm sure it is mandatory everywhere to have smoke detectors in all rooms that the kids sleep in. Some of my kids sleep in my playroom, the room is a sunk in room with no doors. We have a living room and a family room, the playroom was suppose to be the living room. It wasn't designed to have doors, it's not like it had doors and we took them off. There is a smoke detector in the hall right outside of the room, he looked at that detector stepped down into the playroom and immediately looked up. I knew immediately what he was looking for! Really? There is one right outside of the room and there isn't a door. No big deal, it's an easy fix but it still bugs me. When I was first inspected it was by a different person ( that I loved) I didn't have any kids enrolled yet but I was open with where they were going to sleep when I did, I even had the cots sitting there.

I'm glad he came when he did, my worst kid wasn't here today! Three kids were still sleeping and two were finishing snack and then started PlayDoh at the table. Couldn't have asked for better timing! Not that I have anything to hide but I'm glad it's over!

We all learn from each other...none of my kids have their last names on sign in sheet either. Guess I will enforce that now.

I also had to put a smoke detector in our playroom. It's our former 'great room' and is wide open, there was a detector right outside the room in the hallway, dining and kitchen, which are all adjacent. I was cited for that at my first pop in inspection years ago. I was pretty annoyed because they didn't say ANYTHING at my initial inspection about it needing to be fixed.

I find it very funny that the three things that I have to correct are so small but yet he didn't even ask about some things that I find pretty important.

He saw blankets in Pack N Plays but didn't ask me what age the child was that sleeps in it. Didn't ask or check to see if my cabinets are locked,where I keep my knives, medicine etc. I had been warned by a friend of mine that he was VERY concerned about her not having a NO SMOKING sign on the door, so I made a huge one LOL he couldn't have missed it if he tried.

Just realized that there was a 7 week old sleeping in my family room yesterday, there isn't a detector in that room. In fact, the one of the main level is not even close................it's right next to the playroom where I have to put one. Go figure!

None of my rooms have doors on them (all 3 that are used for daycare and the entryway) but I was extra cautious and put a smoke detector in every one of them. :: It's really annoying when I accidentally set them all off.

I would never put (suprised your state requires it) the kids last name on sign in sheets. To me that is a huge safety/liability/confidental factor. Why would it matter if you have two or more kids with the same last name?

Yes, we have to have a smoke detector where the kids sleep also. My childcare room is right off the kitchen so depending on who cooks, it can go off quite a bit!

When I had my inspection my inspector said the same thing, that I need to have a smoke alarm in my family room if the kids sleep in there. They don't, but she made it clear to get one if they do. It does make sense, we had a house fire a year and a half ago that started in a shed that was connected to the house on the family room side(don't ask me why, it was here when we bought the house, 3 years ago) and we did have detectors in the hallway, but none of them ever went off-that we heard anyways.
