I Need Help Wording An Ad For Employee

I need to hire a full time person & I don't want the nightmare the last time I placed an ad. I teach my kids manners & how to be a good person. It seems to be a lost art with the younger generation. I don't want to discriminate, but I feel I need to hire an older g'ma type who has the same moral code & ethics I carry. I really do not want a young person who thinks I need a babysitter & can bring their kid to work. That's all I got when I place my last ad. It was very frustrating muddling though the resumes. Well, some texted or email a paragraph of who they "watched.' Serious! Who texts for a job?

Any ideas how I can word my ad? I live in a small town & the pay isn't at the top of the food chain either. Asking for a dozen years experience with require a higher salary which I can afford. Please & thank you!!!

Well to say that all young people think this is a babysitting job is kind of judgemental because I am 21 and I volunteered and worked at a home daycare off and on since I was about 16 and I NEVER called it babysitting because I understand it is a serious business. Not all young people are the same- it's how they were raised. And not all "grandmotherly" types are the best for working with children either- they may be from a time where spanking was widely expected (where as now it is not allowed on daycare property). Also most places nowadays require you to have to lift about 75-100 lbs (used to be about 25-50 lbs) since the size of children has increase- most elderly women cannot handle that much and working with small children is VERY active work that can put alot of strain on someones back. And not all elderly people are responsible- at the FCC I used to work at the oldest worker (was in her 60s) she was in shape but she never really did anything that the provider asked her to do and would make all kinds of excuses for being lazy and would even get into many verbal disagreements with the provider. I would her the provider and her daughter (who at the time was my best friend) talk all the time saying they were going to fire her on so many occations and higher me as a regular instead but she was one of the provider's best friends and she didn't want to fire her because she didn't want it to affect their friendship.

anyway, I am guessing that this is for cl this is mostly a genralization, you can pick what you want to use and don't want to use.

"Hello, my name is ______. I run a home-based daycare in (city). A main part of my curriculum is to teach children manners, morals, and ethics; I expect that my employees role model this behavior both inside my daycare as well as outside my daycare, as employees are a reflection of any business. This is a serious business so only serious inquirers need apply. I can only have so many children in my care at one time and I will not able to accomidate you if you need to bring your child with you to work (unless you are willing to pay for the spot). All applicants must be physically able to lift 50-75 lbs and be able to stand for long periods of time. All applicants must be able to pass a standard backround check and TB test (or chest X-ray). Applicants must be able to write, read, speak in English. Biligual is not a requirement but will be considered a bonus. Duties include cleaning, food preperation, assistance supervising children, and reading to children. Time may change occationally so a flexible schedule would help. I would perfer someone who either has expierience working with children outside of their family or who has taken some basic child development, ECE, or child care classes; and has CPR/ first aid training (all three would be best). If you would like to know more please call me at ***-***x or E-mail/fax your resume to me at *********"

maybe also consider sending a copy to a local community college and if they have a job board post it or (even better) if they have a ECE/CD department call the director to see if you can post it in their main lobby or in one of their class rooms so people who are interested in working with children get a chance to see it first.

I appreciate your assistance, but I think you may have read too much into it. I said I didn’t want to discriminate & I also stated, “I really do not want a young person who thinks I need a babysitter & can bring their kid to work. That's all I got when I place my last ad.” I merely was searching for wording to discourage a person who believes this is a position they can take their child to work & just watch kids. Period. This post was NOT about age. I'm sorry you misunderstood me.

Ad pricing are per word. A long paragraph isn’t cost effective for any job. Thank you though.

ps…, I’m a g’ma of 3 who is very healthy & I run marathons. I can probably out lift, out run & out last most people regardless of age. Like I said, this post was NOT about age.

I would have an ad that explains EXACTLY what your requirements are and specifically says that NO texts are to be sent. I'd also point out that NO discounts in child care fees will be given to an employee wanting to enroll their own child.

If you have a website I recommend creating an extra page with a job description, list of expectations, salary, employments requirements and even a link to a separate page of employee policies. If you don't have a website then add ALL OF THIS INFORMATION (except the entire employee policies but highlight the important ones) onto your ad instead.

Be ready and prepared with an employee manual/handbook then at that point you can email it to the people that respond. You can even link a generic application to your add (with fillable forms) that they can either download and email or mail to you. Like this one: http://www.driftwoodshores.com/pdf/D...pplication.pdf. If you are savvy you can even create your own with the fillable forms so it's more specific to what you are looking for.

        Also have a contract ready.

****Just noticed that you meant newspaper ad, not craiglist ad. Can you then just say something like:
Assistant position Available in family child care home.
$XX.xx per hour. Contact 123 456-7890 for more info. NO Texts.

Then require people that call to give you an email address and you can email them everything.

Okay this is really weird and totally derailing this thread but what are the odds of this coincidence .... check out the number that I posted in the previous post and then check out the phone number of this call from a company that I received a few minutes ago.

What are the odds of that?!?! Off by one digit .
