I have started with 10mins today with lacing wooden beads. And it's not going so well. 2 kids are up early from nap and need to show me everything I am doing constantly.... Wanting to check the time left... I'll try again after this with another game but for 20 mins. I don't think this group can handle 30 mins yet. So ill start with smaller increments in hopes to reach longer lengths of time.

You're on the right track! After a few days they will get better and in a few weeks you'll notice a big difference.

Sometimes when the kids are seeking attention like that I keep my attention on what they say sparse. I try not to talk too much or comment too much to avoid over stimulating them. Rather I model the behavior I want to see ie: in your example I would quietly lace beads along side them. When they talked or tried to narrate I would keep my answers short like "oh" or my favorite a neutral sounding "hmmm" to avoid engaging them and helping them turn inward and focus on their work.

My suggestion is toys on shelves not in a toy box and interest areas, like a housekeeping center, book corner, block/ car corner, etc.. I am not sure how you have your area set up.

I change out the puzzles And books once a month
I add toys here and there ( and take away) through the month but I do not have a big rotation.

I have three rocking toys that get lots of use...an Ikea rocking moose, a rocking horse and a rocking Dino.

My 2 grocery carts, dolls and food get tons of use along with the toy kitchen and washer/ dryer, tho at times they are washing weird things in the washer! Toy phones get lots of use too. A bin of small balls get lots of use.

The rice table is open quite often but I have younger two's and a toddler. When I had all 3's & 4's it was open each morning.

Since I have younger kids lots of my toys are self contained like a F Price airplane or bead maze ( no pieces) I do have a bin of little people and a bin of food and dishes.

How old are the kids you care for? Mine really don't sit and play yet. They are always roaming but are busy. They are two's and under.

I am a toy lover, so i couldn't go with only three/ four choices. I just went and counted and there are 10 self contained toys, the rocking toys, the rice table, art easel, puzzles, book corner, housekeeping area. So not a ton, but enough interest areas to keep them occupied.

I have a book corner. They love to look at books.
