    Sewer Fixed

YEAH we got the clog. iT IS FINALLY WORKING FINE Dh did not want to pull the toilet but after he could not open the clean out in the shower drain he finally took up the toilet and went and rented the machine again. The clog had moved to a different part of the main line so we had to hit it from a different angle.

I suppose we really do need to have it scoped and think about it may need fixing but I am in no hurry to dig up any floor so not sure I want to know. I am wondering if my change in shampoo caused the problem. I recently switched to WEN Love my hair but is it clogging my sewer??? or are the grandkids using too much toilet paper???

Yippeee!!! Free flowing drains are wonderful, aren't they? I thought of you this weekend. I was rinsing a few dishing before loading the dishwasher and the sink backed up! DH was not happy, but he got the drain cleared. Between that and our tree roots last week, he's done playing plumber ::

I don't think your shampoo would be the culprit. Too much toilet paper combined with tree roots could do it. If tree roots are a problem, anything could get stuck. I'm so glad things are working again for you!

That's great!! You got the clog out YEAH!! I really doubt it your shampoo unless it's making your hair fall out ::. If you don't have any tub drain strainers like the one below I'd definitively get one. Maybe there has just been a build up in shed hair that just finally clogged the drain.

Here are some other things you can try that you might have missed to keep your pipes from clogging up in the first place:
        • Don't pour cooking grease or oil (or any type for that matter) down your drains. Pour them into saved glass containers and then throw them away.
        • Don't dump coffee grains down your drains. They can stick and cause build up.
        • Scoop some baking soda into your drains and then run hot water down your drain. The baking soda can break up grease and free up food particles that might have build up over time. I do this about once a week. It's great for odors too.
        • Vinegar works the same way also and can break down pieces of food too that might have accidentally gone down the drain. Pour 1/2 a cup of salt down the drain, add 1/2 a cup of baking soda and then 1/2 a cup of vinegar let it foam and sit over night then in the morning pour a few quarts of water down the drain. This can help if you get clogged drains alot.
        • Run hot water down your drain after washing dishes so that any food oils get washed way down the drain.

I think we found the problem I ALWAYS buy Angel Soft toilet paper anything better clogs our sewer and it said it is septic tank safe. Well I noticed the TP in the upstairs bathroom was different. thicker. guess they improved their product. looks I will be giving that away and finding a new brand.

And I ready I should be putting rock salt down the drains every so often to clean out the roots.

We are very careful what we put down drains because we had a septic tank until 10 years ago When the city put in sewers. but our house is old and not laid out the best.
Glad I figured out the change in TP before we got another clog/ Still not sure about the shampoo though. Conditioners clog my sewer also and WEN is a cleaning conditioner. but it does not leave a residue in the tub so I think it is fine.
