I Get What Many Of You Say About SA!!!

I own son is on spring break starting today and he has been a pain in my rear!!!

He cant sit still. He is always BORED. Can we eat lunch now? Cant we do art now?? Can... can... can... can.............SHAKE MY HEAD

He doesn't want to do an age appropriate puzzle and do the baby block puzzles instead but obviously that doesn't take him long at all. I don't have 60 ideas for every minute to entertain him.... I may implement the kitchen timer idea from another thread.

He is taking a NAP today.

    Vent Over!

A kitchen timer and an "I'm bored" jar.

Kitchen timer set for 45 minute intervals. Can't move onto a new activity until the timer goes off.

"I'm bored" jar....is actually a chore jar. Every time he says "I'm bored" make him pick a chore from the jar.

Next time he has to clean the toilet, he will think twice about being bored.

I like the chore idea! I know some will disagree, BUT I have found as my own kids get older that I really need to make plans for them on breaks. I know for our Spring break in April I am signing them up for a music camp. They will be gone each day for a few hours with their own peers. In the summer they do swim lessons, soccer camps, dance, etc. I make it work by having a substitute or car pooling with other parents. Just a thought.

I know you're irritated... but be thankful he's home with you. I would do anything to be with my daughter right now.

Like BC every time that my DD tells me that she's bored I give her a chore to do. It didn't take long for her to realize that telling me she was bored or had nothing to do was a bad idea.

My DD is 8 and these are typical "chores" I can have her do if she's bored:
              • Clean baseboards with a wipe.
              • Take out the trash.
              • Wipe down tha bathroom sink.
              • Sort toy bins.
              • Dust.
              • Sweep. (although she doesn't do a thorough job at least it keeps her busy).

Mine LOVE to clean toilets. Not sure why, but I'll take it! I make sure I don't use that chore when they're bored because I want them to keep doing it. I do the dog poo in the backyard and litter box and they usually stop saying the "b" word. During nicer months it's sticks and leaves from the 20 trees in the yard!

:: My 8yo DD LOVES to clean the entire bathroom and she does a PHENOMENAL job of it. Notice that I didn't list cleaning the bathroom as a chore to do when she said she was bored. It would be a reward for her .

I watched a morning program today that talked about this. The woman suggested posting a calendar with a schedule. That way the child can see...we do this then this then this...on Tuesday after snack we will go to the library. Wednesday after nap time we bake cookies. Then you can shove the calendar in their face whenever they ask what's going to happen when ::::
                    Good luck!

I do chores for bored children too! At 8 & 9 yo my older two are awesome at washing walls, windows, toilets, vacuuming, collecting and sorting laundry, dishes.
