    The Demo Begins.....

Well, we just started the demolition today on the old basement playroom to make way for the new one!! We are insulating the walls and adding heat to make everything super cozy. We are also adding new floors, a ceiling, lights and a sink for all my messy/wet activities. I should end up with about twice the space I currently have. I am sooo excited! We hope to have this finished in about 2 months and then I can officially open my daycare. happyfacehappyface The only thing that I will be sad to see go is the kid's mural that I never got to finish... It's worth losing it for the extra space though!

I have added pics of the current playroom if anyone is interested in seeing the "before" pics.

What are the specifics for your flooring plan? We are currently finishing our basement and all the options are so hard to decide... Are you doing in floor heat?

We are going with baseboard heat. I thought about doing the in floor heat but it costs so much more and I'd rather put the extra money into the rest of the playroom. We have re-plumbed most of our house with pex tubing so it's an easy install, especially since we are studding out the walls and insulating as part of the remodel so there won't be any walls to open.

We are covering the concrete slab with DRIcore panels. (Alternatively, you can use plywood and a moisture barrier which is less expensive.) The flooring is going to be a vinyl plank. We were going to go with either wood or laminate, but decided to go with vinyl because it won't get damaged if it becomes wet and it has a much softer "feel" to it. We're going with one of the two options below:

I'm so jealous! I would love to refinish my basement strictly for daycare now that my kids are all grown, but we're going to have to start by putting in egress windows and a waterproofing system, and that's just not in the budget this year.
