Do You Ever Hear The Kids Using Your Vocabulary?

One of my 2 1/2 year olds just told another they were being invasive.

Not only my vocabulary, but my mannerisms, too .

All of my kids have been with me since they were babies, so I'm not surprised by it at all.

      perceptive
      comprehend
exasperating ("Mommy, your son is exasperating me!" re: her little brother who is 21 mos)

Mine have been here since babyhood and they definitely pick up some of my words and characteristics. I love it when they are diplomatic with each other using my words, because it gives me a chance to essentially hear how THEY hear me. Most things are great! Every now and then, I cringe and think "ooh, they sound JUST like me. I better stop saying it like that."

Word-wise, all of my kids call feet "tootsies." I HATE feet, I don't even like the word, and most of my DCPs know that. So when the kids come of talking age, they call their feet their tootsies like I do. I've had more than one parent comment on how it took them the longest time to figure out what their kid was saying. And when they did, they had no idea where they got it from! ::

I've had the children tell each other that they were not being 'propriate

              (inappropriate is my choice word)

Inapopiate, good fwiend, use big boy/girl words, etc.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE when they use it, in the appropriate context. SO ADORABLE! I had two dcg's playing house earlier and they said that the one dcg was crying for a tweat, and the Mommy/other dcg said "I tant unnastan you. You sit white heyar, and when you stops cwyin, you tan come out." and gave her a little hug. ::

Yes! All my kids have went through an "awesome!" stage. That is when I realize that I am using the same words way, way too much. .

That, and... "Not Nice!"...oh, and "hoarding". When asked about his day, I had a 4yo tell his mother, "Great! But I was hoarding." (which came out like whoring). He would take piles of toys to an area and the other (all littler) kids couldn't have them. His mom asked him to tell her more & he told her how he hoards and then has to put all the toys away and start over with just one toy.

My daycare kids can't talk yet, but my own kids (7 and 5) repeat things that I say. Sometimes they order each other around like I do when I'm cranky, so I have to be careful about that. They also say to each other "you worry about you!" Which is something I do when they get a little too involved in what the other is doing and are looking for something to tattle on. ::

But the fun things that I say, they do too. Like "easy peasy rice and cheesy!" or "You get what you get and you don't throw a fit". Kids are little sponges!

They phrase things exactly like me. Many things I coached them to say.

When people come in to work on something in the house (like a plumber or a dishwasher repairman) they find it hysterical.

                      Example:
Please don't do that! That makes me mad!
Please stop whining! It hurts my ears!
Oh that is so sweet, thank you.
When are you done playing with that can you let me know?
You get what you get and you don't throw a fit.

Just last night my 4 yr old dcb used one of my sayings on my husband. My husband used a word that dcb knew wasn't allowed and he said to my Husband " Mr. Jeff ----- language!" I almost fell out of my chair because that is EXACTLY what I say to the dkcs and how I say it when they are being fresh.

I've had several parents come to me laughing when their kids use my expressions. Some of their favorites are:

DCK is about to get into some deviltry-"DCK, come over here so I can save you from yourself".

"You get what you get and say thank you Jesus".

"Do you need a minute to dust your ears out"?

Mine have adopted the word "wonky" from me.

They will also instruct the dogs to "HUSH now puppies" if someone knocks or rings the doorbell and gets them barking.

They all call each other by the nicknames I've given them too. I'm pretty sure none of them know each others real names
