How long until I am no longer a "new member" ? Is it qualified by time - or by number of posts ? Just curious

That is a default description. You can change it by going to "User CP" in the bar above. Then in the side bar on the left go to "Edit your details" then on that page look for "Custom User Title".

I usually set it so you can change it to whatever you want. Check your USER CP area.
