    ABCmouse...

For those of you who use ABCmouse, do you like the program? What do you like most about it? What do you like least about it? Do you pay one membership fee per child or as a group? I'd like to know more info from someone who actually uses this program rather than just what I see on TV and online.

I just signed my 4 yo ds up for it and before he can play on other sites on our computer he has to do 20 minutes of abcmouse! He really liked it at first but, yesturday didn't feel like playing it! I think it is would be good for younger kids and I think they would have a lot of fun. You can get a month free so try it! We are still in the month trial. I want to look into the classroom one to see since I tried to sign up dcb's and it said you had to get the parent's permission on my acct.

I was just thinking about posting about this website this morning! ::

Personally I hate the commercials. I don't know why but they drive me crazy, I guess its all the get started "teaching" them early stuff. What's wrong with playing? It hits on my pet peeve of structured education/worksheets for young children. Although the software itself seem like its just playing games and things from what I've seen, it's just the commercial that annoys me! !

The program itself I haven't tried it but I too would be interested to hear what people who actually use it (not commercial endorsements) think of the system.

I think the computer skills it teaches could be valuable as well, but then again everything will probably be touch screen or voice command so who knows if the kids will even have to learn to type! ::::

I personally wouldn't use it. I think children learn better with hands on expierinece and already have too much technology in their lives. plus there is a link between techy toys/items for young children and a higher risk of short attention spans (some even argue ADD/ADHD) later on. They don't learn like older kids and adults can were we can sit down for a lecture for hours. This to me seems like the 'my baby can read' thing where it is just a simple memory trick but they still do not fully comprehend what they are reading- which is more important in middle school/high school than just being able to read it.

I think kids need more natural are tangiable items incorperated into their learning. Many toddlers need to be able use all their senses to get a full learning expierince: hearing, seeing, touching, smelling, and even tasting- I don't know about you but I wouldn't let a kid lick a moniter, a keyboard, or a mouse (way too much germs).

I did the trial and none of my kids really cared for it.
