    Pink Eye

I was just informed by DCM that DCG has pink eye. She said that she's been on antibiotics all day Saturday and won't be contagious by Monday morning.

    Does this sound right?

As long as she has been on antibiotics for 24 hours she will not be contagious. She will be able to return to DC on Monday.

This happen to me on Friday dcb went to the doctor and has pink eye. Doctor gave DCP a note stating that he can't return to daycare until 7 days because he is still contagious.

could be the dr thought it was viral so no antibiotics. if it is bacterial and they take antibiotics 24 hours the eye looks much better.

Pink eye comes in two forms, bacterial or viral. Viral pinkeye is the most common and is untreatable. Antibiotics will not cure it. Bacterial pinkeye is treatable by antibiotics but is only diagnosable through a swab test sent to the lab.

With that in mind, my policy is that regardless of antibiotic drops, a child cannot return until his eyes are free of discharge, bright, and clear.
