    Facebook Posts

I have a private daycare facebook page and a personal facebook page. I am only friends with the five daycare families I work with on my daycare page. I only post things that relate to my daycare on that page (never personal posts). My question is...the parents post their everyday things. I have commented here and there but wonder if I should be commenting or just be remaining professional? I have a good relationship with the families and have had some interaction outside of daycare (birthdays, recitals, ect). Some of their posts are political, religious and opinionated and I am wondering if I should just keep my comments to myself?

Do they post their everyday things on your dc page? Or because you are "friends" you see their posts? If they are posting their personal things on your dc page, I wouldn't respond and if they were not appropriate I would delete the comment. If it's just what they are posting on their own page, I would be careful what I responded to. If they were posting about their kids being ill on the weekend I might post "I hope Tommy feels better for Monday!" But I would not be posting to anything that could be remotely considered contraversial - religion, polictics, shady posts like "some people should really learn to MYOB!" (although I typically unfriend people who post things like that or hide them if we are related!:: ) Owning a business means being extra careful on social media. When in doubt, don't respond on FB.

I also have a private group, I do not comment on things my dcp post, I like the pictures they post and will sometimes comment on things related to a post anout the kids, but nothing else, I don't consider it keeping it professional as I'm really friendly with most of them, and I greatly enjoy my families, but i don't like to comment on facebook posts.

I work FB the same way - I have even told parents when they join my dc page that they are welcome to block me from viewing their own pages - but no one ever has. I have decided I will occasionally comment on things that relate to their child - like an adorable picture of their child, etc. or if they use their status to ask about something local that I may be able to help with. But I stay FAR away from any posts about politics, religion, education, etc. - basically anything that can be a "hot" topic! No one has ever posted anything on my wall that is not daycare/child related so that hasn't been an issue.
