Potty Training...Do you allow parents to bring potty chairs?

Do you provide a potty chair, potty ring, or just have them go on the toilet with step stool?
I've never had potty chairs here, because I just don't think they are sanitary, and now the first parent in 5 years wants to bring one, as that's the only way she will go at home. We have always just done the rings on the potty, or the potty directly...I think if you can only get them to go on the potty chair, you are going to have a problem if you are in public on a field trip or whatnot...

I have a potty ring too. I ONLY use that or the regular toilet. I wouldn't allow a parent to bring a potty chair back and forth daily....if not for any other reason other than the ICK factor.

I agree with you too about the only using the potty chair they have as the child will need that everywhere they go.....I have images of them bringing it into Target with them just in case.... ::

I have my own... I don't think i'd want their potty chair here, unless I didn't have enough to go around.

I was given a huge very nice one piece potty seat about four years ago, and it's the best potty we have here...so, I'm super happy to have that one.

I'm not sure what I'd do if a parent insisted.....maybe make an argument that if they're that adamant they can not go on a regular toilet then maybe they're not completely ready?

I use the ring on the toilet seat. I prefer it for a few reasons as BlackCat had stated and also because it is just one less step in the training process. I don't need to have to train them from the potty chair to the ring to the toilet.

Stepstool, ring and that is all they need.

I was interested in them as well, but the reviews were iffy (the seat kept coming apart ) If you do get one I'm interested to see how tough it is.

No potty chair. Regular toilet seat or the ring. My bathroom is small. The stool already takes up way too much room. It's ds's bathroom at night/morning and he is constantly complaining about the stool (easy fix-put it outside the door)

I would allow a ring to fit on the toilet as they can be sanitized easily. No small potties. My own daughters are tiny and they were nervous about using the potty without one the first year or so.

I have never used a potty seat or a ring. Just start them out right sitting on the toilet. Boys sit backwards on the seat. I refuse to mess with a nasty potty chair, and I certainly don't want someone bringing one in from home. I don't have room in my bathroom for one either. I like the thought if they are not big enough for a toilet seat too young to be potty training.

Although I agree they are a chore to keep clean..
I've had a few kids over the years that just freak out at the idea of sitting on the big potty..
I did have a potty that I did NOT LOVE.... so just ordered this one from Amazon.com... we've only had it here about a week.. and I currently only have 1 child that uses it...

If a parent wanted to buy me one like they have at home I would say sure. I always start them on a potty chair. I have some that stack so I actually have 4 because I had a group last year. I do start mine younger than some and those little ones have trouble with the toilet. I do not like those padded rings because they are nasty germ magnets. You can not clean the seam. After they are around 2 1/2 I get them switching to the toilet and put the chairs away when everyone is 3 because they can hold it long enough to take turns on toilet if needed. I do keep them close at hand just in case.

I have to sanitize a potty chair and the removable ring after each use so the are the same for ick factor. I do plan on getting the toilet seat with the built in ring this year.

If a parent wanted to purchase one for daycare use (no giving it back and forth, ewww) then I would be okay with trying it. but I would also keep working on the child using the potty that is here (the toilet with a ring). the small potties are more work but if a child needed it to feel comfortable going here and then we could transition to the toilet, thats fine. more than likely, if this kid is ready to potty train, they are ready to use any toilet and it wont take long to transition. once the child is full trained and using the toilet here with no issues, i would clean out the potty one last time and return it. i wouldnt let a parent bully me into telling me what their kid will and wont do. i will find out that info on my own and make the final decision.

I got one of those and mine was SUCH a dissapointment! A huge waste of money. The toddler ring just pops off constantly and I have to snap it back on every single time, thus making it no better than putting the ring on the toilet. Plus, it was thin and uncomfortable, no handles, and no guard for boys.

OP I agree, I hate potty seats and I don't ever use them. One parent suggested I need to use one for her kid and I just flat out said we don't use them here.

The one provider I used to work for she had a bathroom just for daycare kids and the toilet seat had a normal toilet seat and one of those built in lift-able potty rings (like this http://www.myplumbingstuff.com/bemis...ep-potty-seat/). Though I think in some cases she did let some kids bring their own back and forth; when I was working there there was one boy who brought a SpongBob potty seat, but I think that boy did have some issues where he had to have 'his seat'- kinda like adults that can't use public bathrooms or can't use any bathroom other than their own. He had to bring it in a brown paper bag when it wasn't in use and only he could use it.

I went to this one local store and got 2 hard plastic toilet rings, 1 blue and 1 pink, for only $1.49 each (somewhat like this http://www.amazon.com/Prince-Lionhea..._bxgy_ba_img_z) and then I went back and got a padded toilet ring for only $4 (it's got cartoon monkeys, giraffs, and elephants and they also have one with plains/cars and another one with pink polka-dots). They also have simple dark green training potties for only $1 (I'm thinking about getting one or two for younger kids and as a back up incase of a multi-potty emergency). I like having options- especially if they are inexpensive! Plus I would tell parents I have many options and if this doesn't fit their child's needs than they need to bring an alternative.
