Yea, license renewal is every 3 years. She said that unless there was a complaint, she wouldn't see me for another 6 years. That is pretty crazy I think. I thought 1:40 was a long time. What in the world could they do for 3 hours? Holy cow. Are you a group home? I'm licensed for 6.- Flag

Oh it is great only having it every 6 years. I think the last time though was about 3 years. As much as I don't want them here even once a year, it is pretty scary that they don't come out more often. Michigan is such a broke state though, that the funds are just not there. I take comfort knowing though that I'm doing the right thing by my daycare babies. Scares me though on what some are doing/not doing though. I believe that the higher risk daycares are probably getting checked more often. I think they look alot on your history and see if you've been written up before.- Flag

I think here in Michigan it's alot different for centers, not sure why.
That poses a question, if you're a family daycare licensed for 6, how often are you inspected and are they scheduled or surprise visits?- Flag

I'm in MI and had a surprise inspection...something they told me they never do! I was up for renewal and I was part of the random 10% they inspect every year so they came and surprised me. I did not have any complaints against me (ever) and passed with no violations.
My SIL has been one of the random 10% inspections 3 years in a row! (Even though these are random inspections, they still called her and scheduled it.)
My sister has never been inspected past her very first inspection to get her license. Way more than 6 years.
Very sporadic inspections in MI.
Did you ask her about the kids having to be able to do the fire drills by themselves?- Flag

I asked her about how to do the fire drills in the winter and she said that as long as they can get to the exit and hopefully be able to open the door that was good enough. She said that it's not necessary that they go out, but make sure that they know that they're only stopping now because it's practice and it's too cold out. But if there was a real fire of course to just go out. The way I do it is I have them get ready to go out side, then I send them in the playroom saying I have to get ready adn then I do the drill so they are dressed, but yet surprised. She said that was good too. About doing it alone, she wanted to see how many could actually open the egress window and the door lock.- Flag
