    Baby Who Sleeps Too Much

So I have been watching a baby (just.turned 4 mon) for about 7 weeks. He is dreamy (literally), as in he sleeps constantly. DCM says he sleeps all night. He is with me 9 hrs/day m-f. He typically arrives.asleep in carseat and I move him to portable crib where he continues to sleep for 2 - 21/2 more hours. He usually gets up @ 10.am, drinks a 5 -6 oz bottle and is back to sleep around 12 until 2:15-2:30, so of the 9 hrs he.is with me he is asleep 4 1/2 or 5. Is this normal, he does eat twice when here and is in 70th perc. for weight for his age. I normally wake him for feedings or I think he would sleep all day!

You could send some of his sleepiness this way::! I have a 7 month old who gets up at 5:30 am and sometimes will not nap until noon and then will only sleep for 1 1/2 hours! It's crazy.

Some kids need a lot of sleep and some don't I guess. As long as he is on track height and weight wise, I guess I wouldn't worry about it.

Are you complaining or bragging?! ::

I'd say enjoy it while you can! He will probably decide to be a tough one later.....::

I've had unusually sleepy babies too. It doesn't seem to last too long though. I wouldn't be worried yet at his age.

~Update us again when he is 10 months old and refusing to sleep for you ::

No, not bragging just concerned - i am normally lucky to get a child to nap for 1 1/2 hrs. I wonder if he really.sleeps all night?

My youngest son slept like that. Would be up for 2-3 hrs, go back to sleep from 10am-12pm, get up have lunch back to sleep 2pm-4pm and in bed around 8pm-9pm! As he got older and more mobile, he started staying awake longer. I was able to let him set his own schedule and it worked for him. Now he has a hard time falling asleep at night and is always the first one to wake up
Guess he got enough sleep as an infant he doesn't need it now!::

I wouldn't worry too much about it if the Dr says it's ok, and as long as they are getting enough stimulation during awake times.

My own 5 month old naps from 9:30-12:30 and again from 3:30-5 or so, and he sleeps all night from 8 to 6:30/7. I think that's pretty normal for a young baby. Enjoy it while it lasts! happyface
