Best way to nurse while watching other kids?
That really depends on how you view breast feeding, what you discussed with your DC clients about breast feeding around their kids and perhaps the ages of your DC kids.

Of you are open to breast feeding openly without covering yourself while you do it and your clients are ok with it then go for it. If you are shy or your clients prefer that you cover up and you don't mind doing so then do that instead. If you want to breast feed without covering up and a client doesn't appreciate that decision then they can choose to find childcare elsewhere etc. It really depends on how you want to handle it. I personally covered, but it was more for me than for my clients. I just sat on the couch and BF.

How to handle a newborn who doesn't want put down.
Can you alternate from putting your baby in a baby swing to putting your baby in a play gym when awake? I agree that 6 weeks is too little to allow to cry for more than 10 minutes or so at a time especially when they're not used to it. If you've accustomed your baby to be held the majority of the day or if your baby is simply a high needs baby you can try weening him/her slowly off of that by cooing or comforting the baby visually, with soft expressions, tender touches etc but not picking the baby up immediately. Waiting 2 minutes at first, then 3, then 5 etc before picking the baby up until the baby transitions can probably help.

How to get through the exhaustion- ds is up every 2 hours at night. We're working through allergenic colitis and "colic." it's slowly improving but still requires a lot of energy.
Taking shifts with your DH can really help with this. My DH and I at first alternated full nights then switched to every other cry during the night. This helped tremendously because neither one of us had the full brunt of caring for the baby during nights. I breast fed but also pumped so that my DH could help with the night feedings and so that he could bond with out baby.

PS: I had our baby on an early Thursday morning and I was back at daycare the following Monday with my DH helping me with DC half days the first week and then full days the 2nd and 3rd week. I took no real time off. I also had already explained to my DC clients that I would be breast feeding my baby but would use a cover (I had several DCD's that would pick up their little's and I personally did not feel comfortable with breast feeding openly without a cover.

I'm glad to see a post like this. I'm 36 weeks pregnant and have been wondering a few of these same things. This is my 3rd child, but 1st child with daycare and 1st child I'm going to BF. None of my clients have any issues with it, but I'm usually a very private person so this will be an interesting adventure for me.

      PS CONGRATULATIONS on the baby!!!!
