    Parents & Sickness

I know we all gripe about the parents who dope their kids up and send them to us. What about the opposite? Does anyone have a parent that is so terrified of their child getting sick that they keep them home every time another child in your care is sick?

I have one of these parents and it drives me nuts! I just want to tell her that she's doing more harm than good, because if their child isn't exposed to germs, it will only be worse for them in the future. I can't imagine how much school they will miss when they start because they won't be used to all of the germs. My own children, who get exposed to it all, are among the healthiest I've seen just because I don't shield them from anything. I just wish this parent would get it instead iof pulling their child out for several days because someone had the flu or a stomach bug.

I guess I shouldn't complain too much- I still get paid. LOL

I would try to find some information or resources you could print and share with the family about building immunities and how exposure while in child care will help later when the child goes to school.

Is this an only child, or a young child? When my oldest was a baby/toddler I kept her away from activities when I knew of sick kids. I did it because this kid got so sick and would throw up and couldn't sleep which translated into no sleep for me also. She also got everything going around and she wasn't in daycare.

I think kids will get sick enough from stores, church, etc... I wouldn't worry about it.

No I don't have that but I do have a mum who is so good at keeping her kid at home that sometimes I feel bad taking money from her. Like if he didn't sleep well and is a bit cranky she'll phone her mum to come over for the day instead.

The only time we had this happen was in October of last year. DCM had newborn twins at home, and was on maternity leave. So if she could avoid illnesses, she would keep DCG home since she was going to be home anyway. So I would warn her anytime a child was out, and I think she wound up keeping DCG home 3/4 times during maternity leave to keep her away from illness.
