    Resume When Moving On....

I think I've decided to move on from daycare. I've only been in it for 3 1/2 years, but I'm finding I miss the interaction and general day to day of working out of the house. Maybe it's just the winter blues hitting here, it cold and snowy, but I still want to send out some resumes and just see where it takes me!

Anyway, regardless of my reasons for considering making the move, I need to update my resume and wanted to know how many of you that haven't been into daycare for too long even include it on your resume? Not that I don't value the profession, it's more because it has nothing to do with the jobs I would apply to! I came from an executive/administrative assistant type position and when applying for those types of jobs would it look odd on my resume that I did daycare? Clearly my driving force to start in daycare was my own children, a need for income and my desire to be home for them and I'm ok to simply state I took extended leave and became a SAHM over the last few years, but then how does that look? WWYD???

I would include the fact that I was a licensed child care provider with a general list of everything that I do that would apply - record keeping, paper work, classes to keep licensing current, etc. Obviously do it in a way that makes sense to what you are applying for.
Maybe it's just me, but I think we work our tails off owning our own businesses and I would try to make sure it counted, ya know?

    Best of luck!

I just started looking for jobs again, too. I did not include the child care on my resume. I just included in my cover letter that I have been home caring for my own children for the past five years, but now they are ready for school so I am looking to reenter the professional world. In interviews, I have further explained that I have been doing child care for the past few years in order to keep my teaching skills fresh!

I would certainly include your child care business on your resume! I think it would be a great way to show you are able to multi task, great at book keeping, like responsibility, can handle difficult clients, etc, etc.

As PlayCare stated, I'd include all relevent job responsibilities.

Good luck in your job search!!

Definitely include it on your resume. My mom took a few years off and is now looking for a job. She has had a very hard time and has gotten a lot of feedback that that is the reason. Showing that you have been a business owner and been doing record/book keeping, working with clients, handling licensing, correspondence, etc etc shows that you have kept up on your skills and are ready to jump right back into a job with minimal training.

Good luck!! I just started back at my old job p/t and am still doing dc p/t. It feels amazing to be back with adults even just 2 days per week!
