    Nap Mat???

Hey y'all! New to this forum, but not to home daycare. I will post an intro (eventually? Y'all know how busy this line of work can be... !).

I had a quick question...well...a couple of them.

    1) What brand nap mats do you use? I'm leaning towards kinder mats, but want to know others opinions please?!

    2) What type of ground covering do you use in you outdoor play area? Pea gravel? Mulch?

    3) (This DOES pertain to daycare...kind of !) We have to install new doorknobs to make it easier to have the kids open them in case of emergency. We were thinking about getting the lever knobs. What do you think of those? Or do you have a better recommendation?

    Thanks a Bunch!!!

    Welcome!

    1. I just use sleeping bags, I find that the good mats 2" thick were as much as cots. They also don't hold up.
Plus you don't have to clean them with bleach by hand. I just toss them in the washer once a week!

    2. We just have grass.

    3. I have regular knobs for bathrooms.

I use the kinder mats as well and I haven't gotten my play yard completely set up yet so it's only grass right now...but here in MI, the rules say you have to have cushioning under anything over I believe it's 2 feet off the ground (for swing sets and/or climbing equipment)

As for door knobs...I don't know of any rules that apply here for that so I just have regular knobs on all the doors and the safety locks on the doors of the rooms I don't want the kids into.

But I'd certainly be concerned about door knobs being easily opened by children in the event of an emergency as those same knobs make it easier for a child to escape unless they're locked, and if they're locked...how would they get out to begin with in an emergency??? Just seems odd to me.

        1) I have stackable cots, sorry no help on the mats

        2) I have mulch bordered by landscape timber.

        3) As for the door knobs, we just have to make sure you can open them from the inside. Levers seem too easy for little ones to open. What do you have now? Seems like you could use regular door knobs?!
