Wwyd? Sick child

Just curious... My own son was diagnosed last year with HSP, a disease that causes capillaries to burst under the skin waist down and on elbows/hands. It also caused a lot of pain and swollen similar to arthritis. It also jumps from spot to spot. Like it could be on his right knee at one point in time to his left ankle.

It lasts for 6-8 weeks. Only supposed to get it once in life. My son got it 3 times In a year.

All we could do was wait for it to pass and treat the symptoms with prescription narcotics-lortab. When he was on his med he was fine, acting and playing like normal.

Is not contagious.

Would you allow my son to be in your daycare and give him his Meds?

Thankfully I was home with him at that time but just curious if another daycare provider would allow him to come with these symptoms and give him his Meds?

I would not administer medication to a child. I dont even do Tylenol, breathing treatments or anything of the sort. If he could be given medication at home, function well at daycare, and provide a doctors note outlining that he is 100% NOT contagious (as well as the plan for recovery and the possible reactions to the medications) AND a parents note saying that I am not responsible/liable to effects resulting from the illness and medication then yes, if I had all that I would keep him.

I also would not administer any medications to a child. Especially not anything that potent.

I would however, allow him to be in care if he had a doctor's note outlining his condition, the contagiousness or in his case lack of contagiousness, the plan for treatment and anything out of the ordinary I would need to watch for while he is on his meds.

I would allow a parent to come administer the meds if they need to be given during the day but I would also do like Cheerfuldom said and have the parent sign off that I am NOT responsible for anything that could or can happen due to the meds or the condition itself.

I sure hope your DS is ok....sounds like a tough and uncomfortable thing to have to deal with. Poor little guy!

I'm so sorry to hear of your situation and the ordeal your son had to go through. When I first read it, I thought yes, I would provide care for him...then I read the other responders and realize what they said is probably the best way to handle the situation.
I also decided that because of their comments I will no longer provide medications of any type to children in my care and it will be added into my policy/contract immediately.

I'm so sorry to hear your son has HSP, a little girl I care for was recently diagnosed with it and I did continue to care for her. I researched the condition and felt assured it was not contagious. I do administer meds to kids after a parent signs a waiver. I guess it's just based on the provider's opinion on how they want to handle it.
