I Just Got The Dreaded Phone Call

"Hi there just calling to tell you that my child has been up vomiting every 30 mins since 22h30 last night so she, of course won't be in today."

Now I get to spend the day jumping every time someone looks a bit "off" and I'll probably spend Saturday throwing up a lung.

The noro hit 2 kids here 3 weeks ago so I thought we'd beat it. Fingers crossed she is a one-off.

Oh my parents are really good about that. I don't get kids who shouldn't be here.

I had two out last week with it, three out this week and one I am pretty sure has it but isn't scheduled to be here so haven't talked directly with mom yet to know for sure.

One of the little ones out this week was out Monday due to vomiting, stayed home Tuesday as his full 24 hours and was fine all day.

He returned on Wednesday and it must have been too soon because he was sent home before lunch time with massive diarrhea.

I won't be seeing him again until next week so hopefully he is better by then.

My DH had it last week as well. It is definitely making it's rounds.

Last year at pretty well exactly this time it went through our house. Vomiting into a bucket while sitting on the toilet. (TMI, I know). I hope this one isn't as bad.

How long did it last for your DH, Blackcat?

Two days for him and he was MISERABLE!!! He had to force himself to eat, (he is an insulin diabetic) and he could not stop visiting the toilet. He didn't have the vomiting but he had the chills, the fever and diarrhea.

I pretty much don't ever get sick so I am good (knock on wood) but seriously I think there is something wrong with me as I really seriously have not been sick in years. I have taken 1 sick day in 20 years. No clue why but I am VERY grateful when illnesses go around that I am usually immune.

            * he'd kill me if he knew I was posting about his bathroom useage.....LOL!!

Blackcat it's hard on us diabetics I truly feel your husband's pain! I don't know if he can take vitamin D. I have been taking 2500 IU daily for the last two years and I haven't gotten too sick. No vomiting for me just one day of diarrhea and that is the sickest I seem to get with tummy bugs, The vitamin D strengthens the immune system something serious!! Cold bugs I hardly feel.

A DR. once told me that it takes a full 9 days till you get sick because of the incubation process of viruses. At my daycare right around the time of Thanksgiving I was having sick kids daily. Every day I was sending someone home. I was like clock work, right after nap they would just wake up and vomit right where they were. Eveyday another child. Thank goodness my husband has a carpet cleaning company. We were literally carpet cleaning the living room every night!

I have missed 2 days in 21 years due to illness and both were because of a kidney stone. First day missed was the day after the trip to emerg when I was on Oxy and the second day was the day I had my procedure to obliterate it. If I am going to get a gastro it seems to always wait until I am on vacation. Even as a kid the only time I was sick was over the holidays.

                  Illness

I have been so lucky (knocks on wood).... So far never had a vomiting illness here... But due to our geographical location, plus asthmatic children, plus pollen count, my entire daycare and personal kids (other than my part timer) have spring colds. Snot is all clear but the croupy barking with the first kid and the raspy coughing with the rest. No fevers after the first day and they are mostly on the mend but both of my personal kids and two of my day cares are on antibiotics for secondary ear infections. This is actually the first illness in my daycare in ages though. I do allow kids here with colds as long as they don't look physically UNWELL... Because colds here with all the pollen are a normal thing and all of my kids less two are already on year round allergy meds and followed by a doctor for them. But geesh I'm like a pharmacy right now

I have two out with fevers, and my own is home, too. It just never ends.

Oh no! I hope no-one there gets it. I hate those calls - I always freak out at every little stomach gurgle after, like how you feel itchy when you hear someone has lice...

I hadn't been sick for several years and then Norovirus went through our house in February. It started with one dc family who passed it to 2 other dc families and then on to me and my family.

I thought we were all set until last week, when I got a call from one of my dc moms saying her child was sick with a stomach bug. This week, two more were sick with it and a third was kept home for observation. The kids who were definitely sick had vomiting and huge bouts of diarrhea. Just crossing my fingers and hoping my own family and I don't get sick again. Hopefully, it's the last round of illness for the year. Once the warmer weather starts, illnesses usually start to die down.
