Upgrading From Family To Group Family?

Anyone done this (especially in ny) how difficult/time consuming was the process?

I am turning prospective clients away left & right.

I have a family member who has been background checked, fingerprinted and TB tested.

I sent an email to my registrar last week...no word back yet. So just wondering while I wait, if anyone has any advice!

Here in Utah, they no longer differentiate between the two. If you have the required square footage and a second provider that passes the background checks and has the training...then you are good to go.

It wasn't always that way. I am licensed for 16 (the max for home daycare). When I went from 8 to 16, I had to get my house re-zoned for a "major" home business etc. It wasn't hard, just tedious.

I would just find out requirements from you licensing division and from your city concerning zoning.

Sure wish we could do this in WI. Good luck if you choose group FCC!

In MI it is as if you are applying for a new license and must repeat all the steps for licensing PLUS go through an approval procedure for your local government if they require one.

I had to apply to township paying $250 for the application, submit letters of reference, get neighborhood approval and appear in front of a planning commission with aerial photos, photos of outdoor area, and a copy of survey. Then after I got their approval I had to send in all of the required paperwork to the state with a $100 fee. Took over six months.

Just check your state website for the application process and it should be on there.
        I see little people.

In MA, you have to take another orientation and have a home visit. And, of course, pay them more money! It was super easy for me to do...but our licensors are all overworked and don't have much time. I loved having 10 kids, and it definitely worked well financially!
