What Do You Call Your Kids?

I have one little guy that hangs on me all of the time. I call him Jordie. He loves it!

Girls: little lady (if I'm referring to them nicely) or young lady (if they're in trouble)

Boys: mister or buddy (I use them interchangeably for whatever reason)

I don't know where these names came from...I just found that's what I call them. Now all the kids call each other these names too .

Actually had this happen with us. We have an Addison, who we always called Addie and turns out mom was not fond of the shortened version at her old daycare center (I am friends with her old teacher) - but never said anything to us.

I purposely gave my own children names that could NOT be shortened because I do not care for nick names.

I had a DCB a few years back who was a Jr. His parents chose to call him by his middle name since his first name was the same as dads. His middle name was 11 letters long and his "real" name was only 4.

His mom always joked that when he got to Kindy, he was gonna be PO'ed to find out that his real name is only 4 letters long and he wouldn't have had to go through all the trouble learning to write all 11 letters of his middle name at daycare since he didn't have to because here public schools make you write your real name on all your papers. :: Poor kid.

I've used doll-baby, sweetie, cutie pie, cutie petutie (how do you even spell that???!). I called my 2 yo dcb "honey bunny" today and he told me, "no, my name is "first, middle, last name"", ! I am so awful with names...I usually go through all their names before I get it right! :: It is like, "Johnny, I mean Bobby, George, Polly.....". No wonder they don't listen to me half the time. ::

My dcg is Sugar Bear unless she's doing something that requires getting her attention in a hurry. The baby is Bubba or Punkin.

I have a 17 mo old that is just here 2 days a month. My husband has always called him Buddy. By the end of his first day here, he was calling my husband Buddy. Now, he walks in the house and says, "Hi Buddy!" and hubby answers "Hi Buddy."

We use generic names a lot of the time, but over the years we have had special names for certain children.

One of my faves was Henry...aka...Hank (aptly nicknamed Hank the Tank), a huge two year old we had years ago. Gorgeous kid. Always smiling. He grew up to play college football!!! I am still in touch with him and his older sisters!

I rarely use them around parents because I fear they'll think I'm straight certifiable but the kids get a kick out of them ::

Most of the time, I use their special nickname - most having to do with their names, I guess I'm not really violating any privacy by posting first names without a story:

Ella = Ella Bella
Addie = Addie oo (ew)
Ryland = Ry Ry the guy
Chase = Chasers
Sophia = Sophie Ophie
Dillon = D-man
Andi = piddle pie or Andi Candy
Knox = knoxy poo

Lol I used to do that too at a place I once worked at and when I babysat. I would give some of the kids nick names based on their personality that was close to their names:

Bella: Bella-Boo (everyone called her that as a baby), Stella-Bella (means beautiful star)
Taylor: Everyone called her Tay-Tay, I called her Taylor-Roo because she liked to hop (one time she said it like Scooby-Doo says his name :
Camila: 'Mila/ Mia
GiGi: G, Geej, Geegers, Geegerini
Alessandro: Ali, 'Sandro, and Sasho (his little sister called him this because she couldn't say his name and he started calling himself Sasho:


Some general nicknames I sometimes call kids: Sweets/Sweetie/Sweetie Pie/Sweet Pea/Sweetness, Cupcake/Muffin, Cutie/Cutie-Pie, Honey/Hon/ Honey Bunch, Bud/Buddy, Sugar/Sugar-Plum/Sugar-Pie, Dude, Chico/Chica, Mijo/Mija, Bub/Bubba/Bubbies, Bambini, Munchkin, Lumpshkin, Pudding/ Pudding Pop, Kiddo, Kindles, Kinder (means "child" in German), Leibtion (mean "love" in German), Kinder-Leibtion, and sometimes even Kinder-Stroodle ("Child Pastry?"- IDK it just sounds funny).

The oddest thing is I am not much of a sweets/desert person and yet most of my nicknames are related to sugary snacks. I am also not German or hispanic (Nor do I speak German or Spanish) and some of my other nicknames are from or based on those languages/cultures.

my dh called this one girl Stinkerbell because she was being a little stinker that day and she was wearing a Tinkerbell shirt.. I know that is negative but pretty funny

I used to have a child named, Cooper. I used to call him something like "Super Dooper Cooper Pooper". He was my all time favorite daycare baby. lovethis

I also call my kiddos "goofball" alot, as in (while laughing), "you guys are goofballs".
