Getting a Bit Sick of Winter...

I'm not a winter person, but this year has been really stinky. Hardly any snow, which is fine with me, I hate shoveling, but the kids love it, so it is a must. Last week was way too cold that we didn't get outside at all.

Today, my children, who have been patiently waiting for snow to sled, took to the driveway/sidewalks instead because there is ice, ice everywhere ice. The sleds worked perfect, especially the saucer!

No travel is advised according to the department of transportation. I drove my dd 2 blocks to a friends house this afternoon, put the car in park in the driveway and turned it off. Started walking her to the door, then I looked back at the driveway and saw my vehicle sliding down it-in park.

I'm hoping my out of town kiddos stay home tomorrow. If our in town roads are this bad, I hate to see what it is like in the country. It would tear me apart if something happened to them on the way here. Dcd doesn't work winters so hopefully they play it safe.

For those of you with nasty roads-stay safe!

Aw, Mema....that kind of icy weather ****s! We had that a week ago....schools closed and most the businesses in town did as well. Travel was NOT advised.

I had several families who called and asked me about being open....oddly most of them were teachers.

I closed for the day so that the descision was made for them to not travel.....atleast not for daycare purposes.

Sorry about your car but at the same time......:::::::: that had to look hilarious! Did you run save it? Is it ok? Are YOU ok?

All the kiddos came. The out of town ones were over an hour late. He said it took and hour to get there-why wouldn't you just turn around then???? You don't work???? Whatever, they are here and EVERYONE is super duper crabby. According to all parents, not one of them napped (including he babies) and everyone was up late all weekend. Early nap today I guess.

At first when the car started sliding I was like and then when it stopped at the sidewalk I couldn't stop ::::::! Thankfully it stopped because I wasn't going to go running after it-I was still in my slippers! I guess if it didn't stop on it's own, the car parked across the street would've stopped it.

Glad you are ok! (the car too)

I would absolutely have nap a bit earlier and a bit longer than normal under the circumstances!

Hoping you day goes quickly and everyone arrives on time for pick up!

You must be getting snow now! Mix too??? I just finished scraping the driveway and sidewalks (it took 3 hours). By the time I got in and the dishes washed from supper, it started down pouring-glad I finished when I did! Good luck if you are getting the mix stuff!

            Nope. Nothing.
They are saying 5-8" of heavy snow for my area but there isnt even a snowflake in the air.
            I'm so sad....

If it is going to be winter, I prefer it to snow because it's warm (er) when it snows, it is pretty cool looking after a big snow fall and well, I kinda just like the snow..... Beats icy mixes and sub-zero temps.

Hope everyone on your roads all drive safe. Icy mix is the worst!!

We started Monday with ice covering everything...one grandparent actually stood in my grass and slid her grandchild across my stoop to me because it was so icy (Too cold for salt to do anything). We are ending Monday with rain, thunder and lightening. It is crazy out there. Anyone who doesn't believe in global warming needs to come to Iowa.
Our weather has always been extreme but a downpour and thunder in January is odd...it should be a ton of snow. Last year we didn't even have much snow and we could go outside the day after Christmas and not wear jackets! A few years ago I was driving my daughter to camp in July and saw white stuff all along the side of the highway. At first I thought it was packing peanuts but no, it was snow...in JULY!

We ended up with about 2-3 inches of wet heavy snow!

Perfect for making a snowman and just warm enough for my big ones to have some really good outside time. happyface

I, too, would love to live in a warmer climate. It is soo hard to get the 5 toddlers out in the snow/ice. We had some snow yesterday, then 35 and melting, overnight it froze. Everything was a skating rink this morning! 3 of my 5 parents admitted they slipped and fell when they stepped outside at their own houses. One of the moms got stuck in a snow bank down the road. Luckily my assistant was here, so I went and dug her out. And, this is why I do daycare in my home! If road conditions are bad, I don't leave the house!

Well, it was thundering and lightening off and on all night here last night and down pouring at times. Not sure how much rain we got, but if it was snow instead, dd would be really happy! I think we are suppose to get a few inches tonight to throw over the top of all the ice and rain puddles, so that will be interesting.

We haven't made it outside in I'm not sure how long. Last week it was waaaaay to cold and so far this week it is way to icy even tho it would be perfect temps. Crossing fingers for tomorrow to get out-even if it is only on a portion of the patio to do jumping jacks or something. Hopefully the advisory that is out for tonight into tomorrow night is bologna and it won't be blowing. Below zero temps again for the last half of the week

I am not a winter fan, but yes, snow is better than ice and sub zero temps! lovethisI still prefer my fall weatherlovethis

guess you do not want to hear yesterday it was in the low 70"s and today high 60's though that means thunderstorms today and being Missouri tomorrow in will be in the low 20's I could use a nice snow.
                      It:: will wait

Today (Tues)- 40's, tomorrow- mid to high 50's, Thursday- 20's! It has also been raining since Monday when we had a slushy rain/snow mix. It poured today.

I love snow and have been very disappointed the past few years. We have not had much snow this winter either. I told my husband we are moving to northern Canada or Alaska. He wasn't buying it.
