So funny to hear people say they enjoy it, when it is one of my absolute least favorite things about caring for infants. I cannot wait until they self-feed. That's what makes the world go round.
Looks like I am in the minority.
It is my most hated part of the job (ok, other than cleaning up poopy messes).
I've even told my assistant I hate spoon feeding infants and I wait until they can eat on their own. I am glad it is a short phase. happyface

Me too.
I'll even admit to loving those pouches, because it takes less time. I just found out you can buy the reusable pouches at Walmart. (no infants here, but maybe I'll look into those one day)

What is this pouch and how do you use it? I'm taking a new infant in may.
I dont mind spoon feeding as long as it is not a battle with the child or as long as it is not a parent wanting to start really young with a baby, before they are ready. I dont love it though probably just because with daycare kids and with my own young children, it definitely is not "fun"....just monotonous at this point.

I would like to know what it is too. I'm imagining it's like those Gerber squirts with yogurt in them? Where they basically squirt it into their mouth. Dont they need to learn though the process of eating and not replicating a bottle and just ****ing it out? If thats what it is?
I'm like Blackcat. I'm doing the happy dance when they learn to self feed. I find it fun for the first couple of months, then I'm over the fun because sometimes it takes so long and I need to do something with the other kids.
I hate it. I do it and I hide my hatred, but I hate it. Takes a long time, is messy, I absolutely LOATHE it when they decide to blow a raspberry while you're putting the spoon in their mouth and you end up with something nasty spewed all over you...self-feeding is awesome.
Plus there's a side of me that doesn't get why they have to be spoon fed at daycare at all...if milk is supposed to be the main source of nutrition until a year why can't we just let the parents deal with the mess (and you KNOW a lot of them don't spoon feed at home in the evenings/weekends!) and when they can self-feed start giving them bits of what everyone else is having at lunch and snacks?
Most of the infants in my room are eating table food, but I appreciate the moments I can take to spoon feed or give a bottle to those who need it. It is a moment to slow down and spend time connecting with the child who often, as the younger children in my room, don't participate as fully in other activities as the older infants do.
