    Teaching Toddlers Help

I have a DCB age 14 months, since he has started walking I have had issues with his interaction with the preschoolers I have. If the older kids are playing legos...he wants their legos. If they are sitting doing puzzles...he wants the puzzles. He has also started throwing things and hitting when he is upset. He doesn't speak yet...just MAYBE a Dada or Momma occasionally...nothing else but jibber. I don't know if this is out of frustration because he cannot communicate or a sign of things to come. How do I go about teaching a 14 month old the concept of sharing???

I don't know if this relates but he was severely delayed when I started caring for him. His last (private....unlicensed) provider kept him in a baby seat ALL day. to the extent that his head was so flat he had to wear a helmet for 6 months to reshape it. He couldn't lift his head, use his arms or roll at all at 5 months of age. He has "caught up" so to speak in every area but speach.

Although my only experience is with my two kids, I started teaching my first how to share by showing him one on one. I would let him see that I had a handful of cheerios and when he wanted some I would give him one or two and say "share" or tell him "mommy is sharing cheerios with you". Lots of repetition. And I was silly about it and made it fun with goofy faces and whatnot. Eventually I would give him a pile of his own and asked him to share with me with the same silly attitude. It didn't take long for him to understand the concept. He ended up enjoying "feeding mommy" turned out to be a lot more fun for him that it was for me. (I hate cheerios) . I'm not sure if food is the PC way to teach a child, but it worked for me. Plus I did reinforce the idea whenever the opportunity presented itself so it wasn't always about food.
