What would it be called if you want your home based program to be play based/child centered, but also want to teach simple preschool lessons such as the alphabet, color recognition, etc.? Can you have both? Is there a name? Maybe a time block in the morning for the lesson part, but the rest of the day play based? I will have babies up to 6 year olds and will do a weekly or monthly theme, depending on how long the children are interested in a particular theme and I will make the lessons age/developmentally appropriate to include everyone, even the babies.
What Would You Call This Type Of Home Based Program?

I am a play based, child led program. The kids are still taught their ABC's and 123's every day. The lessons are just "hidden" within their play.
I watch and observe to catch "teachable moments".
For example I have 4 DCK's right now playing kitchen center/pretend food. We have had discussions about food groups and shapes within this play time.
We have also discussed cutting the pizza into 4ths or 8ths in order to figure out the number of "friends" we can serve.
When parents interview, I explain to them how the kids learn through play and how the kids tell me what it is they are ready and wanting to learn about.
Does that make sense?- Flag
