    Really?

Dcp says to me today "It is so hard working 12 hr days, 4 days a week."

I respond "Yeah, I know how that goes."

Dcp says "how would you know? *** (her kid) is only here for 10 hrs a day"

My response: "and she's not the only one I provide care for."

Dcp gets her kid and leaves-comes back 2 minutes later.

Dcp: "Hey my schedule is changing in Feb. I'll be working Sat & Sun now."

    *stares at me*

Me: "I'm closed on weekends. What days will you need during the week?"

Dcp: "Thurs & Fri. But the hrs haven't changed, just the days. You won't be working any more than you are now!"

Me: "Again, she's not the only one I care for. Saturdays & Sundays would add 20 hrs to my 60 hr work week. I am closed on Saturdays & Sundays."

Dcp: "But she'll be here 20 hours LESS during the week, so it won't really be adding anymore hours to your work week."

Me: "The answer is no. Have a nice day."

*I walk away, silently wondering wth just happened*

WOW!!! Just because she would be there 20 hours less during the week doesn't mean that you wouldn't have other kids during that time! I know you know that. You tried to tell her that. She really couldn't get it through her head that her kid is NOT the only one you care for. Wow....
Good for you, for standing your ground

Here in MD we are licensed for a set amount of hours and days, I guess when someone calls licensing to find out about us they give them what our license is for. For instance I am licensed 7 days a week from 6am - midnight. However I am only opened M-F 7am-6pm. It NEVER fails I always get someone that calls and wants to argue with me cause either I don't take kids after 6pm or I don't watch them on the weekends. As if my only reason in life is to watch kids!

            Wow that was just unreal!
I have had parents tell me they are giving me a "break" because they are keeping their kids home on a bad weather days. I always say cheerfully "well I'll probably get some school aged drop ins to take their place today so I'm not sure it's much of a break!"

I had one that came to my house and wanted weekend care, and I had to explain over and over that i don't work weekends. Heck, I don't know any daycares around here that are open on weekends.

But, But,.........your not really "working." You are just hanging out at home, watching TV and doing what you would be doing anyway!

                            This is absolutely incredible.

How hard is it really to understand that one less child during the day is not really a big difference in the scheme of things when you have other kids to care for. You're not working any less, their child is simply not there at DC .

I can't believe that she thinks you're working less just because her child isn't there. Especially since she was just complaining about 12 hour workdays 4 days a week. Now she expects you to work 12 hour workdays 5 days a week PLUS 10 hour workdays 2 days a week . I don't understand people sometimes.

I actually went & checked on the state website to make sure it didn't say "24 hrs a day, 7 days a week." I'm licensed for DAY ONLY care M-F, according to the State website (which is exactly what I requested)

I have one who, when her parents keep her home, it really is a break! Of course, fewer kids in a day doesn't mean I'm working fewer hours! I may have fewer squabbles or messes or diapers but I'm still working!

I know of 1 around here. But we're friends & I just couldn't do that to her . If I did, she'd send me her next rage baby

Right! From Friday at 11pm to Sunday at noon I do NOTHING daycare related! All dc related calls go to the answering machine, I won't answer texts from dcp, no cleaning, planning, shopping for daycare for 37 hours straight. People are clueless!
