Vent...I Really Need To Develop A Backbone!

So to make a long story short, we had house fire in July of 2011. We have a brick house, all of the shell of the house with the exception of our family room was fine, but the inside of the house had to be ripped down to the studs. We hired a restoration company to do all of the work. So come to present day, we are still calling the company to come out and fix or do work on the house, our shutters are still not even here yet. We have called them to come out and little by little they have, but when they do I have been so nice to them. My hubby tells them how it is, but the project supervisor is so nice, that I just can't say one mean word! My husband tells me that I need to be more assertive so that they can get the work done and over with. He also says that I live in a world of puppy dogs and butterflies... Well, why can't I? It's very hard for me to see the bad in people. Well from reading stories on here and advice that has been given, I NEED a backbone! I am waiting for my license so I can open so I haven't dealt with anyone yet, but if I don't I think I may get eaten alive by some of the parents!

I think you just need to be able to transition to the business side of yourself. For example, the bank doesnt care if you are nice. Its helpful if you are nice so you are easy to work with but no amount of "nice" is going to get your loan approved if you have bad credit, you know? so this restoration company has nice guys working there....thats great. but they are doing a crappy job if you are still waiting for this work to be done at 6 months later. you need to be able to say "hey I am a nice person but that doesnt mean that you can disregard our agreement about the work to be done" you can smile and be friendly but that doesnt mean that people can take advantage of you. being firm or setting boundaries does not make you a bad person or a mean person. in a nutshell, yes, you need to start working on this because there are certain types of parents that will eat you alive if they can.
