    Does Anyone Forbid DCKs To Wear Perfume/Cologne?

    Weird issue...how can I kindly request that children do not wear perfume or cologne to daycare? I am pretty sensitive to certain fragrances, and occassionally a child will arrive with a spritz of their parents perfume or cologne...usually we play outside and they air out, or I wipe them with a washcloth, but today 3 of them came smelling like they took a bath in it :/ Now I have watery eyes, runny nose, and a lot of sneezing...not to mention a very scented playroom...

    I think it is kind of common practice now days in a lot of places.

    I don't personally care but I know NannyDe does NOT allow anyone to wear fragrances or perfumes.

    If you are looking for how to word it in your contract or handbook, you could send her a PM or an e-mail and she might be willing to help you out.

    This is from her web-site:

    Due to a very serious allergy to most perfumes and fragrances, parents and children may not enter the day care at any time wearing any kind of perfume, after shave, lotion, or scents. PLEASE make sure your child does not have perfume or scents on them when coming to day care. If we notice a scent upon arrival we will request the child be taken home to remove the scent. Parents are requested to avoid using scented detergents, lotions, or soaps on the child or the child's clothing. Johnson and Johnson baby products and Equate baby products are allowed. Tide, Dreft, All, Cheer, and Whisk are also okay for laundry detergents. If you can use the "Free" scented laundry soap it would be best.

      Thank you so much for the info! I will be sending a note home today. I didn't know if it was unreasonable for me to ask, but I can't have another day like today.

        Sounds good what blackcat suggested. I havent run into this problem, but I wouldn't allow it either.

          I once had a child at a center that I worked with that was 3. He would come to daycare with not only cologne on, but also had an earing and would wear boxers with baggy pants so you could see them...

            forbid ??? no but I had one little boy that would put on Dads "smelly stuff" each morning. I had to tell mom he either needed to stop or I would have to call and tell her I was sick. It gave me the WORST headache.. kinda the reason I monitor what dh uses
            It:: will wait
